Seriously, you’re doing this for your dog - I thought I was the only crazy person spending tons of cash to keep my dog warm. We have a 17 year old corgi and last year in Anza Borrego we had a number of nights of 32F temps and he started shivering and hates being under blankets. I swore that if he was still around next year I would make sure he was warm at night. Heading back down next week with a Propex heater and he will be comfortable at night.

I want to start getting out more in the winter less people different view. So im looking at options, an hr ago I bought a mr heater gonna try it out in garage. Pullin apart my harley for maint and cleaning so il see what it can do and get an idea how long it last. Prob get a 12v low amp heating pad as well.

The Mr. Heater website shows the buddy lasting 3 hours on high, and 6 hours on low. I'd bet it comes out a little bit less than that, but close (let us know your results if you time it). HOWEVER, if you leave it on, even on low, you'll probably cook yourself out of the Habitat. In such a small space it heats things up FAST. Turn that thing on high for 5 minutes and it'll be toasty for sure. Unfortunate part is you turn it off and it'll be cold in 15 minutes, lol. That's why we've been using it just to warm up the Habitat before we put on our PJs and hop into our sleeping bags. Then turn it back on from bed 5 or 10 minutes before we get outta our bags.

And i nearly forgot to add... I'm not a dog owner, but I completely understand wanting your pets to be comfortable. We are probably going to be pet-sitting around Xmas, and we might just spend a night in the Habitat with him. But I'll be next to a house, so I'll just run an electric space heater all night if we do it :)

yeah I understand it wont be on all night more of a morn eve pre heater until it gets warm inside. after all it heats air not objects like infared. I did use in garage workin on scooter did a pretty good job. maybe heat a big rock (mass) or 5gals of water and toss in back of truck. million ways to skin a cat. i guess if it got bad I could invite the big neighbor girl along.... I hope it doesnt come to that.

Nope, you're not the only crazy one :D My pup and the ease of getting her in and out of the Hab vs. an RTT with ladder or something was a major consideration for shelling out for this vs a cheaper option. She's just shy of 7 and a "Spitz type" breed, so luckily cold doesn't bother her (yet). But GOOD GRIEF does she shed... Small price to pay for unconditional love and a best friend though I suppose

You should get a corgi, they only shed twice a year, from January to June, and July to December.

..last road trip October great site in the late afternoon sunshine next morning full-on shadow sub 20F and I was cold intolerant as was the short haired pit-mix. once coaxed out of the Habitat and into the cab covered in blanket. I built the cabinet for the refrigerator so she could get into and out of the loft independently. she places front paws on tailgate and expects me to lift rear legs, same as getting into front seat...2018-11-24-0041.jpg

Did you order this at the custom length or did you just cut it yourself when it arrived? I have a GFC but have been considering a cab rack to go in front of it like you have done. Also, GFC will be releasing a rack sometime next year that will work with GFC and the habitat looks to overhang about the same on shortbed dc tacomas.

    Because I'm never happy?
Wanting to get an A/T Summit
I liked the Habitat slept warm and dry in some terrible weather with it, but saw the Summit the day I had my Habitat installed but it was a proto-type then. I've been waiting for the to become available for the Tacoma.

I think we can make room for the little brother in this thread.

Mostly because I am too lazy to follow a different thread.

    Haha...not doing it...can't make me!

I was just about to say that I had met a gentlemen a couple weeks ago in a parking lot that had some cool brackets on the side of his Habitat...it was Dirtymechstyle!

I am going to start getting my awning mocked up for mounting, I will try and document as best as possible. I am really bad at taking pictures when doing larger projects. I am mounting the Eezi-awn Manta and would like it to rotate 180 degrees for use with the habitat open or closed.

The big issue for me is minimizing the overall “footprint” of the truck. I don’t mind the pin striping on overgrown trails and minor scratches, but I am afraid of that one thick branch that gets caught between the awning and habitat and creates some serious damage. I would like to have the option to at least temporarily relocate the awning for those really tight trail sections.

This is exactly what I want to do. I have a 270 awning just collecting dust and have some ideas on a swivel bracket. If I complete this before you do I will post some pictures of what I come up with. Look forward to seeing what you do.

Is Habitat too generic a name perhaps? I musta called it a Habitat 10 times in two pages of my build...

    And then there's the title...
