I was waiting for someone to ask this...

There was some scuttle butt about attaching to the junction in the driver's kick plate... this is false because depending on year the wiring goes different directions... it's a nightmare to figure out. Just trust me on this.

    1. buy this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B94MZL8/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_detailpages01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

2.pull off silly antenna mount and discover it's just an NMO connection... using a step drill, make a NMO sized hole in something, I used one of the light tabs on my ARB. The other is the NMO for my 2m. I was thinking of getting a NMO plate and mounting to one of the bolts on the front edge of the Hab... this would give better view to the sky when driving in a NE direction, but my reception hasn't bothered me enough to deal with it yet.

    3. remove stereo from dash

    4. run antenna wire from it's location to the dash hole, plug in wire into your XM antenna port. coil up excess and zip-tie out of place

    5. put it all back together

    6. enjoy reception!

Do you know when they made the swap from the solid aluminum panel to the white panels? are there pros of the white panels that the full aluminum doesn't offer?

As far as I understand it, exposing the white panels was an aesthetic choice and it increased the risk of water infiltration between the panels themselves which is obviously not good if it's exposed to below freezing temps. Plus the new design is easier/faster for them to fabricate since they're not having to cut out the sides to reveal the white panel. And someone else here brought up the fact that you also run the risk of a stick or branch getting between the panels on the older style if you're squeezing through tight quarters. But I would guess there are plenty of people with that style that are perfectly happy with their Hab and haven't had any of the problems I listed...

Edit: I initially misread your question; as far as I know the units with the cutout and white panels on the side are the older style, they went to "solid" aluminum on the sides sometime after. However, maybe you're talking about something else or something I haven't seen yet? Do you mean the doors with latches on the sides that some people have?

I recall seeing the first solid body Hab not long after I picked mine up with the cutout, which was in April of 2017. So I think they were introduced a couple months after then or so.

Me too. Picked mine up June 1, 17

Still wish they would have had a stamped build number on the logo plate.

So which came first? Solid aluminum or the cut out?

The cutout is the original design, they're all solid sides now.

I had the thicker tent. Are you a short bed?

Has anyone added lights to the top of the AT Habitat? I am specifically looking to have rear amber lights for leading groups.

Not me.. the led brake light on it is very bright... I know the rear facing amber lights are a big thing right now. I'd be interested to see a direct comparison in real scenarios aside from Baja racing.... Nv roads get as dusty as any other and while I do have a +2 and sua you can still only safely go so fast with a habitat (or gfc for that matter)

So, I'm thinking of doing something similar to this, but not buying the mounts from GFC. Thinking of a single piece of square tube perhaps. @Dirtymechstyle , long shot, since you haven't been on since mid December, but do you know the distance from the Habitat to the awning mounting surface. Also, has it bothered the awning at all to be mounted at a bit of an angle?

Haven't posted in here in a while, mainly because I haven't been camping in a while :(... here's a pic from the early winter in northern NV which was my last trip... have a lot of work lined up for the truck/habitat coming early March.. planning a ~10 day trip for late March again. Looking forward more than ever to some good times enjoying the habitat

Been a little while, but I’ve been busy.
Made a homemade annex, installed a Trax Table, Quick Pitch En Suite shower, and added molle storage to the inside extra sleeper panel.

I’ll try to get some details soon.
