So I'm trying to check my transmission fluid level level. Trying to put my Tacoma in fluid temp mode. I've wired a slot 4 & 13 And shifted through other gears and gone between neutral and park multiple times. I can't get the light to come on AT Temp light to flash on and then stay on when it gets to temperature
Could it be because my check engine light is on? The check engine light is on because of a catalytic converter code
    Thanks

Are you sure you have the right OBD pins jumped? I ask because some diagrams show the connector upside down from the actual orientation on the truck.

I over fill mine by a quart…shift through the gears, soon as the pan feels warm to the touch,I pull the check plug.

Do you have scan tool or scangauge that you can read temp with? That's the easiest way, temp should be 97-115F to check.

I think the shift sequence is N to D 6 times then to park

I'm using the correct pin locations
My timing is exactly from neutral to drive as the video
My biggest question is, will a Tacoma go into fluid temp check mode if the check engine light is on.
I know a check engine light affects other things like cruise control.
    Thanks

I can't answer that one, maybe somebody will chime in...but I've never done that method on any of my toyota's.

The CEL should not keep it from going into temp check mode, unless you have a a transmission related code.

The easiest way to do it is with a scan tool. Well worth the money. But in your case, you kind of need this done “now”.

When I did mine (2014) I vaguely remember having to go faster between the gear changes than is shown in the video.

My diagnostics tool is borrowed at the moment so I'm going to run by advance Auto. Get them to clear my codes, get home quick and see if I can put it into temperature check mode.

IF you take the Tacoma it will be too warm to put in temp check mode when you get back. You will need to do it first thing in the morning.

100% this. And they don’t cool down super quick.

Yes, you would be right on the temperature being too hot by the time I got home. I did borrow a scan tool that cleared the codes. Still can't get it into temperature check mode.

It just came on! No excuses, no explanations. I tried shifting fast, I tried shifting slow, and when I started shifting like I didn't care it came on, But it was blinking so it was too hot

When I did my daughter's Corolla, I did the shift sequence then laid on the creeper near the tranny pan and kept shooting it with an infrared pyrometer.
When I was in range with that, I pulled the plug and let the excess run out.
Those infrared pyrometers are great for a lot of things like checking hubs from sided to side, the temperature of your oils and fats when making soap....... etc.

You will always be able to do it now. Once you get it in temp mode you kinda figure something out and then you will always be able to do it.

I never could get that temp mode to work either. Maybe it doesn't work on older Tacomas? Been using an IR thermometer on the transmission pan instead. Works fine and much easier.

I always use an OBD2 bluetooth reader and OBD Fusion app for the trans temp.

Yea should be identical, I believe the 07-08 FJ has the wrong temp spec listed/programmed as well though just like 05-08 Tacoma's.
Should be 97-115F instead of 115-130F.
