You're not going to really see much of a fuel mileage difference so if you like the look of the wheel and tire size, I would go for it. I went with 305's because I like the wider tire and I'm getting the same if not a little better mpg than with the 285's.

seems like a lot of folks like Hankooks here - just curious if everyone is talking about the same specific tires. Dynapro AT2? which ply rating? E-rated (10 ply) seems like overkill.

I feel like I'd ideally choose a skinny 235/85R16, but those seem hard to find except in super heavy E-rated.

my used 2005 2.7L 5MT came with 265/75R16 Mastercraft Courser AXT2. I haven't had them off-road much yet, but they seem good in snow, and I don't find them too loud but have little to compare to. I'll probably run them until they wear out.

Mine are AT/M's, P265 75 16. Absolutely no need for an 'E' range tire on my 4runner ( or Taco)

I recently painted my factory wheels black. I don't hate it but I don't love it either. I seem to be having a difficult time finding a decent black wheel in the a 16", any advice where to shop?

Wheels can be a tough recommendation since it's such a personal preference. What style do you like? Do you want stock width and offset, or wider/more sticking out than stock? The size, width, offset/backspacing are a major consideration so if you see a wheel you like, toss out a link with the specs so we can check to make sure they fit. The Toyota 6 lug pattern is the same as GM, but the center bore is different so double check anything you find. SCS has several nice wheels that come in 16" with decent offsets.

I just went wheel and tire shopping a few months back, and I couldn't find anything for 16 inch really. From what I heard more common size now a days are 18, 20, 22 for the wheels. I would suggest window shopping on custom offsets website and then maybe go find a local wheel and tire shop and buy from them. It ended up being cheaper in the end for me, saved me a few hundred dollars that way. You may have better luck finding 16 inch wheels if your staying stock tire height. I ended up going to 18x9 on 33x12.50 R/T 10 ply toyo open country and didn't too much noise differences from the bf goodridge KO'2 which were the stock tires that come on the truck which was like 31s

Idk if this will help you, but here or oem wheel specs. I would suggest wherever you order your wheels from tell them what size tire you wanna run. They should be able to help you figure out and order the right wheels for you're needs

The Ion wheels are a little wider than stock and with the -5 offset, they will stick out a little farther than stock but it shouldn't be a big issue, especially with the skinny 245 tires. The Manx with the 16x8 with 0 offset are also wider than stock and will stick out more than stock but 5mm less than the Ion wheels.

The Nitto Terra Grappler is a nice tire. I have it on my 2003 Prerunner in the 265/70/16 size. It gets 19.50 MPG consistently. The tires will last about 50,000 miles.

Thank you for the link and pointing out the wheel sizes. I'm glad you shared that information, as I said earlier I've been having some trouble finding OEM wheels. Now I know what to look for at least and I'm glad I didn't order the wrong size wheels.

    Cheers

I have a set of 17X7” T4R SR5 wheels ready for tires. Like my bro’s here these will be turned by the (not so) mighty 2.7l 4-cyl 5-spd M/T.

On the fence between tire sizes. 255/70/17 ups the diameter from 30.5 to 31.1. 245/70/17 maintains oem diameter spec but loses 1/2” of sidewall.

Don’t want to lose hill climbing ability with larger tires but also, don’t want to bruise the driver’s roids with the smaller ones.

Anyone with experience either way, please let me know what you’ve found. Maybe I’m splitting hairs. Be honest but please don’t hurt my feelings.

I just put 265/70r16 Toyo Open Country AT3s on this Friday, got 45k out of the stock Hankook DynaPros. If you do the stocks size just get highway tires. Truck looks great and yes it does rides nicer.
