We all love our trucks and say “I’ll drive it till the wheels fall off before buying a new one.” But in all seriousness at what point did you decide it was time? What made you upgrade? Was getting another Taco the wise decision?

lol, sold my diesel to buy my house, sold my F150 to buy my wife a new subaru, drove my beater for a bit, wife wanted me to have a truck again. got a 90 Toyota access cab. in 2020, kids got way to big for the back seat. so found a good deal on my 2009 crew cab. sold the 90 to my nephew who loves it.

now if i found a low mileage 2nd gen crew cab "long" box 4wd id 100% take that home

As soon as plug in hybrid, mid size pickup, becomes available (like the RAV 4 Prime), from any mfr., I will give my 2015 Sport to my son in law or granddaughter (now only 16), and purchase one. So I might be driving it for a while.

I usually get rid of vehicles after 3-4 years but this time around…I’m going 7 years strong and don’t plan on selling it anytime soon. These trucks are aging nicely and gracefully. :)

I was not hurt and the person who hit me was okay. She was driving a Camry and lost it on the ice. Both of us were doing about 40mph, I could see it coming. Seatbelts and air bags save lives, along with good engineering.

Only way to get rid of my truck, if it’s considered a total loss or it’s stolen.

Anyone with major power train issues? Or maybe just wanting something newer?

I had my 2003 Honda Pilot since July 2002...first year it came out.

Had over 200K+ miles on it before some lady decided to drive the suicide lane and hit me as I waited to make a left turn. Oct 3, 2018.

My transition vehicle was a 2010 Mazda CX-9 with 115K miles for $10K in late Oct 2018.

After Cash/Refi on our mortgage in Mar/Apr 2021...it was Tacoma Time! May 14, 2021.

EDIT: I actually wanted a TUNDRA...but the wife brought me to my senses.

I'm glad she was OK with me purchasing a truck...even though now, she regrets it. lololololol

that is okay I looked 4months for something that doesn't exist a crew cab long box 4wd with a manual transmission. i mean i had info on everything doing searches nightly. until a friend remined me that i could get a short box with a manual, which was still super hard to find for me that wasn't a prerunner. finally ended up with a fairly nicely equipped 09 with a small lift wheels and tires and the arb bumper.

First Tacoma (2003) was a single cab. Needed extra space so I upgraded to a 2007 double cab. Had planned to keep that one forever but it was totaled when I hit a cow. Got a great payout on that truck and bought a 2013 double cab. Hit and run driver tagged me last summer and insurance did not total it (kind of wish they did- truck is just not the same now. Creaks and groans and squeaks and thuds like crazy now). Regardless, I still plan to keep this one until the wheels fall off. Still low miles. 10 years in and 56k miles later

Covid shortages. The Trade-in value of my 2018 meant I could upgrade to a 2022 for a couple thousand if I was willing to wait a few months for delivery. Kept driving the 2018 until it arrived.
Plus, I could get the factory lift for not a lot more (would’ve gotten the Heritage grille either way, and sold my off-road shocks to recover some of the cost) AND interest rates hadn’t gone quite as stupid yet.

Plus, at the time I ordered the 2022, it looked like that would be the last chance for a V6 manual. Given that the 2023s were identical, I was mostly right.

I decided about 15 minutes after I drove the loaner 2023 Tacoma that I wasn't impressed and I couldn't wait to get my 2011 TRD Access Cab back from frame replacement in early February. My truck drove like a new truck with the new frame, shocks, hub bearings, etc. I will definitely be driving it until the new frame rusts thru in another 11.9 years.

Long story, short... I was forced into filing for Chapter 7 (don't ask, I don't want to get into it). But because I didn't have any secured debt, I only qualified for Chapter 13, which meant I would still be paying in what caused me to file in the first place for the next 7-10 years. In order to qualify for Chapter 7, I needed to take out an auto loan for at least $500/month.

So, my 1985 Nissan King Cab goes into storage, and hello 2023 Tacoma!
