Plenty of info around here on how to take care of that new frame to avoid a repeat.

Good to know (and do), 'cause that's your last freebie.

I got tired of fixing my Ranger even though she was awesome. It seemed like every week something new needed to be replaced... fuel injectors, steering pump hoses, brake lines, alternator, ball joints, blah blah it was 75% a new truck already but the rest of the 25% were killing me as I was getting older and fixing up my house at the same time... no time to be bent under a hood. And to top it off she had a knock under load that meant I had to drive up hills at like 45mph.

At one point I was pouring power steering fluid in every couple miles just to get the job done before I could replace the hose.

HG? Love my 07 that just passed 200K but gonna have to upgrade to a Tundra as the wife wants a travel trailer. The ones we like are in the 6-7K gross, right at the max limit of my Taco. I’ve pulled 5K trailers and I wouldn't want to go higher than that.

    I’m still on my first.
It took me close to a year to find what I wanted. With such limited manuals made, you guys sure as hell keep them forever! How hard is it to find a 12-15 double cab off road, manual, decent mileage, no accidents, and rust free….I was looking at trucks in AZ and CA…..one way plane ticket and drive it back to PA. Yeah I’m that guy.

I have no plans of unloading my Tacoma, but the wife wants a Airstream. Meanwhile I have absolutely ZERO desire for a diesel that’s not going to generate me any money, but be used as a toy. I don’t even really dig the Tundra’s either.

It'll have to succumb to rust or major mechanical. And even then, I might still keep it as lawn art b/c I have so many good memories w/ it.

Aha, dah! No, not too concerned as HG issues are not common for 07+ 2nd gen’s. It’s the 05-06 years that are reporting HG issues.

I got a new Tacoma because my wife wanted 4 doors, and honestly, we needed the space. It was sort of just in the air, and I'd have moments of weakness a few times annually where I'd consider something new/different.

Well while scrolling Facebook Marketplace, I caught a seconds old post on a 2020 TRD Sport, manual transmission for $40k CAD. I messaged the poster and asked if it really was a manual and he said he'd confirm in the morning (it was late, and he was a dealership salesman).

I ended up getting there right after opening, quickly test driving it, and making the offer there. While I was signing the paperwork, multiple people came in asking to buy it without a test drive. The salesman came back up and asked if they priced it low or something? And I said not necessarily, but you did sell a unicorn.

So the moral of the story is, if you are going to upgrade from a perfectly suitable Tacoma, make sure it's you're unicorn, or at least a good base for you to build upon.

I wouldn’t touch the new Tundra platform until year 3 or 4.

With the cab off design for certain repairs, and it's not like that's exclusive to Toyota. I was wondering if the whole body has to come off on the new Sequioa to perform the same work? Or any fullsize BOF SUV for that matter?

When my daily driver was a car and my 4x4 was dedicated to other stuff. Now it'll be when I have enough room and income for another one, or I'm flying back and forth to commute again.

I wasn’t even referencing the cab off design if the new Tundra is even using that model? I definitely wouldn’t touch it then. Im speaking in reference to all of the gremlins the new Tundra platform is experiencing. It always takes Toyota a couple of years to work out the bugs. The new Tacoma will experience growing pains as well….popcorn ready.

Had a 98 4Runner back in 2020, wrecked it coming home from picking up my wife from the airport when the transfer case went out and the driveshaft catapulted us. We were fortunate to tilt over on the driver side from the fast lane and safely slide all the way to the shoulder without hitting anyone else on the hwy. Got a pay out of $6k from the insurance for it plus $1500 for the selling the whole wrecked 4Runner which by the way I feel stupid today for selling it for so cheap cause it was supercharged, lifted just a few months before the wreck.

    4.jpg

The way I came to owning my 07 DCLB Prerunner was by my brother. He ran across an old neighbor of his that owned it at a supermarket and she reminded him of when he asked her "If you ever want to sell the Tacoma, I'll buy it from you". Well, she was in the process of trading it in to the deal for a new Toyota CH-R and asked if he'd still be interested in buying it for what the dealer if offering, which was $5k with 120k, now with 183k. He said yes, she gave him a week and he bought it the next day for $5k. He then offered it to me and the rest is history.

Even though it isn't fully loaded, for what I got for it for, I am planning on doing the FJ Cruiser 4x4 swap, regear and add lockers. I'll probably still be under for what most go for.

The first time was because I gave my 1986 to one of my kids and replaced it with a 1996. The second time was when I blew a head gasket the second time on the 1996. Then I got my 2006 extended cab, took very good care of it and still drive it to this day.

It is what it is with the cab off design. Asking price for the Expedition Tiberline, is 80-90k same as Sequoia Pro. I've see pictures of both Toyota and Ford pickups with the cab off. Haven't seen a picture of how they tackle the fullsize utes that would face the same issue.

No, not anymore because the head gasket blew stranding me 1,500 miles from home and the engine was replaced with a low mileage engine supposedly outside of the HG issue range. Mileage at the time of failure was about 138,000 miles. We will see how it goes. Since it has no rust and no other issues and looks very new there is no reason I should nto be able to get at least another 138,000 miles or so. Maybe.

Brand new 1992 V6 5spd 4x4 Extra-Cab Toyota Truck for 14 years. Kid came along had to sell it. Bought a 3 year lease return pathfinder. Drove it for 15 trouble free years. Wore it out with 2 kids. Always wanted to get back into a Toyota Truck. So we we’re finally able to get into a Tacoma in 2020. Wanted a good used 2nd gen but the prices pushed me towards a new one. Very happy with our 3rd gen 2020. Zero issues so far.
