I'm on my first tacoma but I had a 2010 gmc serra 2500hd with the 6l gas motor sold the gmc because it was a pig on fuel and I didn't need a 3/4 ton truck I don't tow big stuff only quad and utility trailers so I went to my tacoma.

    I sold my 1st Gen in 2016 hoping to get a 2nd Gen….
Prices were radical! Literally 3-5k away from a brand new truck..that was the only thing that swung my decision

    Myself a combo of factors.
If you planed on resaling it you dont want it with too many miles where you only get couple grand for it vs selling when you can still get 5-9k or more depending on model. Im tied another 2 years on the wifes 20 XLE Camry. Only then can i sell my lil base 2.7 2wd and try and buy a used Foreunner or a V8 Land Cruiser if i can afford it* id love a nice wide V8 LC or Lexus equivelant maybe a 5.7 Sequoya or short bed 5.7 15mpg crew cab Tundra. Im at a point in my career where mileage dont mean shit. Im 12 miles from my work. If those are still too pricey....a crew cab 4.0 Taco will def work also. Im 51 with really bad arthritic knees and ankles & cronic pain so it would be nice to have a comfy wide truck/suv. Sucks the way things are now Just like in 2009 when i bought my Taco new, their really wasnt any significant benefit in buying used since the gen2 71k mile used truck i was looking at was literaly 1800$ less than my new Taco. Now if your buying CASH$$ in full thats a whole diffrent story if your buying direct from the private owner. I wish..$$

Sorry for hijacking the post. The fog lights needed to be mounted as low as possible. I used a pair of garage door lifters for the brackets. Never expected them to still be going, but here we are 15yrs later.

I've decided that I probably won't, at least for a decade or more. For my purposes, the new trucks are an expensive disadvantage.
    • Starting with a new truck means starting over with a chassis that needs extensive modification to suit my needs. Suspension, steering, armor, clearance, reinforcement, rear axle, gearing, etc.
    • The new 3.5L is not good for my application. Will not own one, ever. That's if another Tacoma were my only upgrade option.
    • No new vehicles, from any brand, meet my requirements for performance and reliability both. Several meet one or the other, none meet both. 70 series Land Cruisers and Hilux would be the exception, but we can't have nice things here.
    • New vehicles are obscenely expensive, and my truck is far from the top of my priority list.
    • Finishing my current truck will put my total at about half of what a new truck costs with zero debt/payments
      • This includes a level of performance and reliability unequaled by anything currently on the market
    • All I'd stand to gain are a nicer interior and (subjectively) improved exterior. Neither are top on my priority list.
    • Not daily driving my truck, it is at about 5k-7k miles/year right now. It will last a long, long time at that level of use.
Most new vehicles offer marginal improvement at best. Almost all of the potential options on the market (Tacoma and other) have a major achilles heel that I'm unwilling to deal with. All would require extensive modifications. And all options cost 40k and up. It's up to the end user to decide what's best for their application, but for me it makes zero sense to buy something else. I'd love to drive something straight off the lot that was 100% ready for what I need it to do, but the market doesn't provide it in the US right now.

Recently rented two 2023s and wasn't overly impressed. I had been thinking about getting one of the last manual transmission Tacomas for the last year. I just can't bring myself to write a $40k+ check for a 2023 that isn't much different than my 2010.

I have a 2013 Double Cab LB 2x4 v6 with just at 150k miles. I have to replace the rack and pinion on it at the moment done all the normal maintenance. I have also replaced the factory stereo head unit with a joyning 10in touch screen and the factory speakers. Done a few mods here and there also. I love this truck and it is my daily driver for all things. My only major complaint by all passengers (specificly those in the back seat) is that it is too cramped. When you have small kids it is fine. But for full adults or teenagers not so great. I would sacrafice like 4 inches off of the LB of the truck for that much more room in the double cab. If Toyota could do that, my goodness, I would not have to be looking at a full size truck.

I have also had to rent one of the newer 3rd gen Tacoma's that is that aweful 4 cylender and hated it. While it got decent gas milage, it had no balls to it. It was a neurterd truck. :-(

Mine simply got too small and uncomfortable to take long trips in. I had a 2014 long bed 4dr sport.

    I upgraded to a 2024 GMC 2500 at4 diesel. It's alot nicer ride.

I do wish id been able to keep the Tacoma. It was basic and simple and would have probably been fine just to commute to work once a week. I just couldn't justify the extra expense for insurance, etc.

Stock (99.999%) OEM Bed Floor Mat, Front Bed Rail Cargo Net and hooks, Auto-Dim mirror w/Compass and outside Temperature display, TRD Pro Grille, Uni-Filter air pump modification, WeatherTech floor liners f/r. (winter) OEM All-Weather floor mats (summer).
The reality is a compact truck is always going to be/feel small. Even taking 4" off the long-bed is prob only going to effectively give you two more inches of leg-room in the back and no matter where the front seats are adjusted, it is still really only a two-seater in the back with the center spot only good for a day-pack with your lunch or a six-pack Igloo cooler. (barely). Even on my DC, the seats don't store/fold completely down easily if the front seats are adjusted all the way back and/or the backs are not set almost completely straight upright.

If you want a true 4-seater you're talking full-size. Seats up or down and the front ones all the way back in my friends' F150 can fit the all the gear, two dogs (Labs) and all their support stuff, and giant food bag, ridiculous-size Yeti, and take you, your friends and your B-I-L, and all HIS stuff/crap all the way up to Greenville, in comfort, without killing each other on the way up before you even get to Waterville or Bangor. When I offer to use/take my truck, they always just laugh or say mean stuff like: "don't talk foolish". :blahblah:

But I get the last laugh: I don't have to spend three days after we get home cleaning the truck inside and out of mud, mysterious grime and trash and dog hair and ground-up dog treats everywhere. ...Not to mention the "Carry-In/Carry Out" mountain of trash bags. Mission accomplished! :proposetoast: ...and I can tell them they should have sprung for WeatherTech floor liners like I did, instead of cheaping out on the WalMart specials or ordered the F150 with the full rubber floor. "Coca-Cola never comes out of the rugs, Genius."

Bought my 2012 new, now at 250K km. Will consider replacing when rust becomes an issue, or if I oversee too many repairs. I figured no more than about $4K/yr CAD in parts (I do most of my own repairs), otherwise, will start looking at replacing my Taco. I should be ok for at least another 2 yrs, ideally 3.
