How are the tacos on 35s?
I hear jeeps have a lot of stability control issues after going to 35

We have longer and wider wheel base so it rides good. It's the gearing that sucks

I always regear before lift and tires. Regear is a benefit regardless of you lift it or not.

wish I could test a set of 285.
Don't feel like regearing just yet and not sure if the power loss and MPG loss will be too much to me.

There is no magic number. When the truck doesn't perform to YOUR standard, regear.

I still think 4.88 is pretty low. I went to 4.88s on my jeep running 35s and rock crawls. I still can't imagine 4.88 for 285s

I run 285/70/17 and havent noticed a drastic change in fuel economy or power. Not regeared.

2+ MPG is kind of bad.

LIES! No reason to regear for 285"s, but you will have to do some trimming and really need aftermarket UCA's to maintain a good alignment and to get positive caster.Heck, I know people who ran 315's without a regear for a couple of years. They just have to put trans in lower gear like when pulling a trailer to keep the trans from shifting all the time.

Hmm, I'm regearing when I go to 285s. Yea, the truck could handle the bigger tires, but I like having my fuel mileage and power back. Plus, I agree it puts less strain on the drivetrain.

When you pick tires that are too big for how the vehicle is currently geared.

    Seriously.

Most folks are either form or function. If you need jumbo rubber to accomplish how you use the truck 80+% of the time, plan on a regear.

If you want to use jumbo rubber to up your cool factor at the mall, you may or may not need to regear. Depends on the ht of your speed bumps and how long it stays parked for photo shoots at the old closed down warehouse.

I just think about it like this:

If you lost 2 MPGs on this truck.. you're losing about 40 miles a tank a gas.

40 miles is 2 round trips to work for me.

So saying someone loses 1-2 MPG may not seem like a big number.. but think about what it actually means, miles per gallon, it's a lot.
