So, we all know Decked is overpriced for what it is for the Tacoma. After looking at a couple I figured I’d just build my own and get more useable space. But lumber prices are ridiculous right now and probably aren’t coming down anytime soon. It’s $1350 brand new. Found a guy selling for $1200. Told him I’d pay an extra $150 to get it new. He offered $1050. What do you all think?

I saw one locally for $500! It made me flinch but honestly when you think about it it's like having 4 small storage bins that take up the size of 8. Not for me. Especially with the camper shell.

I love my decked. I have used and abused them on and off road full of tools and recovery equipment.

Pro tip get a small 90 degree plug extension cord and plug it into you bed outlet before install because once you install them the plug is blocked so I just leave the small extension plugged in

Yeah I have a camper shell so I don’t care about waterproof or locking. My current set up is Rubbermaid bins and I have a quick plywood setup with supports to sleep on. It’s a pain to get to the stuff in the bins all the way in the back, hence why I want drawers

I've seen them $600-$800 locally. Depends how long you're willing to wait.
Alternatively: There is enough slack in the wiring Toyota uses to relocate the entire plug to the front of the Decked system.

I love how you put that, “4 small storage bins that take up the size of 8”.

Yeah man. It just isn't there for me. I see guys carrying the same stuff. Air compressor, weapons cleaning kit, camp kitchen kit and recovery gear.

If you filled the Decked to capacity and then took those same contents and put them in a Tacoma without a Decked I think it would deter more people.

I have a KB Voodoo shelf I love. It has its draws but it keeps so much loose crap tidy.

That’s exactly what’s kept me from getting the decked system. Maybe a revamp is in order @DECKEDUSA?

Pic was for the fridge platform, but you can see the plug too right.

I hear that. But for me, I’d use it as a sleeping platform as well

inspiring!!! I love it clean work!

did you plug the whole where the outlet came from?

is that just a piece of plastic you used to mount it?

Yep; I used the same material and cut out a blank cover with a hole for the cord.

Yes, it’s just plastic I bought off Amazon.

If it’s no trouble could you link it?

I used left over wheel well material to plug my camera hole when I got a new bumper and cut everything up. Would love to replace it as well as do this plug relocation.

This is a great mod did you dream this up your self?

I really like the Decked system, but for me, on a week long camping trip with my family of 3, my 5ft bed is packed as it is. The organization is appealing, but the wasted space is not, so I'm attempting to make my own out of 1010 extrusion, and hopefully I'll be able to cater it to my own needs.

I sort of feel the same way as others in this thread, I like the concept of the decked (or drawers in general) but I can't overlook the enormous loss in cargo space for gain in organization. There are other methods to have some organization in the bed that do not waste nearly as much space.

I was pretty pleased with my platform on my 2015 Tacoma. I was able to fit 2 large shallow storage bins underneath. That left perfect space on either side of bins for tents, sleeping bags and camp chairs.
