Looks like this is a good loop to either start or end on.

I'm starting this thread so we can try to keep all the information in one place.

Suggestions or at least a place to start:
    1. 5 - 7 day trip
    2. Camp each night to help keep expenses down
(I will have on board hot shower available)
    3. Mid-July?
(It could be cool if we left out after T&T, have Sat. to prep and pack, wider window of time for people going to gather, hit the road with a full belly)
    4. Once there, keep the pace slow enough to relax and enjoy the scenery.
(I would rather cover fewer miles and enjoy myself than rush just so I can say I did a trail)
    5. ???????

If your interested make suggestions. Let's try to keep the BS to a minimum.

    Possible Loops / Trails
    1. Alpine Loop
    2. Black Bear

I really want to take part but the reality is I likely won't. I already have too many tentative plans for trips this year, including one to Colorado (Boulder, Indian Peaks area). I need to step back and take stock of everything to figure out which trips I can do and which will have to wait.

    When in August?
The date above is just a suggestion/starting point.
I just need to make sure it is before my wife has to start back to school.

I would love to make this! And, I think I will be able to. Based on the exact dates, it may just be me but it could also include my son as well

Will do! My company is providing us with "Flex PTO" starting in July where we dont accrue any more pto and get to take whatever we are able to get approved from our bosses. Once I know about summer possession schedule with his Mom, I will know if he will make it.

I would bet that August would be better in terms of snow as well. Like, meaning there would be less

From the little bit I have checked June should still have a bunch of snow in the higher elevations but from July on it clears out more.

My wife just told me that she generally has to officially report back to school the second week of August and usually spends at least a few days before that getting her classroom ready. It will still be a couple of weeks before she knows for sure when she has to be back.

Just heard about another company doing this. Company still keeps track of PTO but doesn't limit the employee. Said productivity was up and people were happier. They were more inclined to use their PTO instead of hoarding it.

I don't hoard my PTO. I use it all. I really don't understand where manager's heads are at when they dont let people take their PTO. Its in the contract. X many days. Corporate sucks.

Absolute truth, you can't say for sure when the Alpine Loop will be open until the spring. They plow it to open it as early as possible but that doesn't guarantee a date nor that you'll be able to find camping. Typically by July you're safe.

I haven't wheeled the area but I'd be surprised if there was much snow in June. Generally things are pretty clear by then. So far, they've also experienced a very mild winter with very little snow. If March and April experience a lot of late season snowfall that could attribute to above average snowpack into June.
