IMG_2526.jpg I usually try do most maintenance myself but working 6-7 days a week i decided to just go to the dealer to knock some stuff out. I had already bought spark plugs per @chris4x4 's awesome spark plug write up. Anyway i am goin to have them use the ones I purchased. Wondering if I should purchase a dozen quarts of atf for the trans. drain/ fill as well and possibly save a few bucks? Or would it even out in the end. I know they up charge all there stuff quite a bit and have done a good job steering clear of them for many years but this 2014 is by far the nicest truck ive ever owned. Appointment is Monday so too late to purchase fluid online and looks like auto part stores dont carry the toyota atf ws so ...

Easier to just let dealer use there stuff or should i grab something from AutoZone/ o'riellys. Any suggestions? Didnt see any real clear consensus on brands on other atf thread. Thanks!

Edit. I know yous guys like pictures so heres a randumb one of a bee that i took on a customers roof when Someone "borrowed my 10' ladder

You'll save money doing it yourself. Hand a dealer your own parts(assuming they allow this - many don't) and they'll likely end up in someone else's truck.

If you're going to let the dealer do the tranny service....just let them supply the fluid. I can't imagine you'd save that much by purchasing your own. Besides, you said free time is tight.

And they'll keep all 12 quarts for the drain and fill. ;)

Toyota ws fluid is supposed to be garbage. Get your own fluid and fill/flush yourself.

Give them the new plugs but ask for the old ones back. Let them supply the fluid

I did. Dealer will most likely only put toyota fluid in there. Toyota atf fluid is supposed to be garbage. Should buy other fluid and change at home. Doesnt take that long. Will do a better job and get better fluid in the trans.

Will a dealer use locally purchased, non Toyota ATF?

I just do my own drain and fills with MaxLife ATF. $4.97 a quart at Walmart. Uses 3 quarts each time I do it.

Man doesn't have time. And how do you explain rigs with 1-200k miles on them on OE fluid?

Not going to argue with you. My reading comprehension is just fine. Stating my opinion that it will be better result doing it himself with different fluid. Toyota fluid wont ruin the trans, other fluids will be better. Have a nice day, I've said my part.

Maybe ill just have em do the plugs since they're overdo and no weekends have worked out im in awhile. Only at 55k so just do the flush later to Save 200 bucks or so. Thanks to anyone who actually gave some useful advice and didn't chime in with bullshit useless comments.

The drain and fill really doesn't take that long to do, nor is it difficult, everything is within easy reach. So much easier than those old transmissions where you had to drop the pan and make a total mess.

Theres a drain/flush and refill thread here. Gearcruncher seems to be the resident tranny expert and has some reason as to why the toyota ws fluid isnt so great. I did my flush/refill around 60k. Not that bad of a job. Best of luck.

Honestly the toughest part was getting the shift pattern down to set the trans into temp check mode to check the fluid level. The write up was very thorough and helpful. I used Valvoline max-life.

No, it is not garbage. "Supposed" is some form of second hand rumor from somewhere.

Oem tranny fluid is solid, albeit overpriced.
