Anybody know if there is an indicator or some way to tell what mode it's operating in?

Does it matter? Let the engine do the work.

So let the engine do it for you. It engages on its own, per driving style.

The transition is seamless and depends on engine load. If you can get the intake valve angles from the ODB port you could figure it out. I dunno if that information is on there.

The new instrument cluster does estimate current fuel economy.

Just a guess. I don't think it is descrete. It May operate patially in one mode then the other ad happen so quickly like valve timing it would be like watching lights to tell you when your plugs are fireing....why bother

There isn't cause in a video the guy said he was trying to figure out when it switched cycles while driving, but he could never feel a difference because it was so smooth. So obviously there is no light other wise this guy wouldn't be guessing.

OME, sliders, dents, hail damage, soiled armrest. Lightbulbs.
^ it would probably flick on and off often too. Like those "ECO" lights. They are neat, but unless you are actively hypermiling, they are a little distracting. I would like to know when it swaps to A-cycle for academic funsies...but if there isn't a light, no biggie. Won't miss it, really.

I'm as curious as you are, and I hope there'd be more info soon on how or when Otto-mode kicks in (like at what % throttle angle), since I'm under the assumption that this engine operates in Atkinson-mode most of the time by default, and then switches over to Otto-mode on the fly with VVT-iW when under load or power is needed. It'll be interesting to learn what strategies the engine can run.
