So I bought a taco a few months ago trading in my Jeep rubicon. I loved my Jeep on trails. I hated it on the road. Drove it for 4 years and I wheeled hard. But it was to the point where I feared for my life driving on the road. So bye bye jeep.

I still love crawling. I am serious about putting an atlas in my truck. I was wondering if anyone had any in sight. I’m an experienced mechanic. Welding, hammering , drinking beer are my specialities. I dabble in turning wrenches and I’ve handle a flathead screw driver once.

    Welcome!

Whats wrong with the one it has?

Lots of info here but not gonna have a lot of info like that here. Trucks are too new, once they are 10 years old and dying people will likely look to heavy mods like this.

Buy a 1st gen is my advice

Putting a divorced style transfer case in may be a bit tough, might have to use a 2WD tail housing for the trans to make it happen. My question is what is the end goal, ground clearance, FWD capability, extra crawl ratio? As it is your exhaust is one of the lowest hanging components, that and the trans crossmember. You can do like I did and get rid of your trans crossmember and push the t-case up higher. I have a flat belly now and it cost lots less than adapting an atlas. Pic to give an idea...

They aren't Chryslers, I don't have that much confidence in the 3rd gen drivetrain but it isn't that low haha

So a crawl box does not work with a manual transmission. (I believe) Plus I don’t like the idea of synchroless gear driven. I want synchroed, cable shift, chain driven. I am open to other options.

The reason for wanting to swap is the 2.58 crawl ratio make hard obstacles harder. I would love be a 4:1 ideally

Might as well do an SAS if you need that much crawl.

not trying to dash your dreams. I see you are on a mission, I just dont understand the end goal.

End goal is a lower crawl ratio. I appreciate everyone’s input. I’m open to options.

Crawl boxes on toyotas are just mating two Toyota reduction drive boxes together, you can even make them remote shift. Your stock case is chain driven. Crawl box would be easy as your case is nothing new, it came from the 2nd gens and is well supported. That would land you closer to a 5.16 ratio

Already lifted 2” 35s are ordered. I’m fully skidded. Already have to replace a rci skid. I did a shackle drop kit (not the flip kit)

You cut or add fiberglass fenders? 33's barely fit on a 3" lift and usually require a lot of wheel well trimming

Oh really? I thought they changed the case. Do you have any info on the remote shift?

One of my goals is to also not hack my interior to pieces.

Body lift has been done. I plan on doing the fender trimming once they arrive. I’ve already done the cmc and a some minor trimming.
