That spare diff is gonna be built with 4.56 gears. I'll be glad to swap it in so you can get home, but you'll lose 4WD and all the traction goodies.

Drove down to Will's and back fine yesterday.

But honestly, I'm not gonna feel good again until the built diff is in there. I've lost confidence in ToMoCo's stock gears.

There have been several how to's on diff swapping...no need for me to do one.

The truck is TRD Offroad, yes.

And as I understand it, the ring gear in the 8.4" rear end is considerably thicker.

I was also told the Nitros are the best gears for our truck that $ can get you. That's what I plan to go with. And I'll be cryo-treating on top of that.

Wasn't locked when it blew, but have used the shit out of the locker in the past 6 months.

Would rather not have to think about whether I can use it or not. Truck needs to be strong enough that that's an option. Period. Disappointed in Toyota with this gear thing.

Sweet truck. Did ATO make the gas tank skid as well? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
Yeah but you have 4.88 :D
So it should be thicker then 3.73 and slightly thicker then 4.56.
I dont think process is the problem, Toyota needs to balance strength vs longevity. Thats why I have yet to see 8.4 to explode like this and people running them with Detroit lockers and dual TC's to get crawl with out having to spent money on fuel on highway.
One other suggestion I have is to get traction bar with those cryo gears. They going to be brittle, and with so much axle wrap 2gens have those gears may not last as long.

Winch in cradle for front or rear use as needed is the plan.

Guess who's gonna be fabbing the winch cradle :spy:

I haven't figured out the storage method yet, but I don't think it'll be a problem...probably just stick it in the recovery box with the rest of the recovery gear...
