really? every other truck i've ever fooled with has the nut made into the frame at that location.... hmm.

its typically a smaller bolt that the front 4 but it typically does have the nut made in..

You could stick a nut and maybe a washer too, up in there through the bigger hole right next to it. Use tape to hold it in place till you can get the bolt started.

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
if it's the same holes that the AP bolts into, the smaller bolts went right in and stayed. can you confirm this kevin?

I just removed my AP skid and the rear bolts screwed in (well, unscrewed), mine is '09.

i'm just wondering if the AP and ATO will bolt in the same holes. if they do, then whitebread shouldnt be having an issue as long as he's bolting the thing up right.

whitebread, can you take a pic where you were bolting up the front? thats the easiest way to get everything lined up right

I edited my post above...to reflect that I am the biggest retard ever. It is the smaller screw that goes in without issues. Not sure what was wrong with my eyes before but a flashlight shows threads way up in there. Carry on, gentleman.

pm'd you back pd3... sunday is good for me, just let me know.

whitebread.. glad you got it figured out. had me a little worried for a few there..

sorry these didn't come with instructions guys... but since mine was already missing all the stock skid stuff i need to take pictures of someone elses truck removing everything to do a write up.

pretty simple though for those who haven't done it yet, just remove the stock skid and the two braces behind it, then use the 4 big bolts that held the braces on to bolt the front and middle holes on the new skid, and two of the smaller bolts from the stock skid go through the two back holes on the new skid.

Fire931 i just checked the budbuilt site and their 1st gen skids fit 95-04 so them must be the same. I would much rather get it from you if you guys come up with a design.

Just got my skid in the mail and installed it. I got all 4 big bolts in, but only one of the small rear bolts. Apparently I landed the truck right on the other one and bent the frame a little

    Sound familiar?

I don't think I really need that last bolt in there. I might stuff a sheet metal screw up in there though.

ouch! is it touching the frame or is it bent up to the point that there is a gap there?

gotcha.. might not be a bad idea to get a piece of metal in that gap, then try and get some sort of bolt or something up through there... just to help prevent any furthur damage.
