Yea, unfortunately I live in this state. I have already dealt with an attempted armed robbery after an ATM withdrawal in Hayward, CA over a year ago. The perpetrator had an air pistol and I was able to escape unharmed with everything intact.

Why not use a cable with a lock through the tie downs?

That type of cable that would fit is too easy to cut. I have a plastic bed protector which makes accessing those tie downs very annoying (which is why I want the chains). I’m using a u lock from abus and a super beefy bicycle/motorcycle chain from kryptonite.

So I did the chain mod. I went to ace hardware and got 4 lengths of chain. Each length has 4 links. I used a little red loctite to put the tie down anchors back on (hopefully I don’t regret that).

Mod is awesome!!! Not expensive and SO much more convenient. Now I can lock my mountain bike, it’s easier to load my dirt bike, and also tying down something like a table saw is much easier since the chains are easier to access than the tie down point which was recessed behind my plastic bed protector.

So far I haven’t noticed noise from it. I think since I have the plastic bed protector and the chains are heavy that’s why it’s quiet. If the bed was just metal it might be noisy.

Now that is a great idea, and I’m gonna do this. If I remember to, lol
It’s one of those things that when you’re trying to tie something down you wanna just beat the crap outta the duraliner design guy but then forget to do something about, till the next time you gotta tie something down.
