I've seen a few of these but they're all for double cabs. Is there any way to DIY this to make it fit an access cab? Where the double cabs have handles I have a little airbag emblem, so I'm guessing that's the problem. Anybody find a work around on this?

    Hello friend,

I tried out a DIY attic net with a laundry bag and some 1" webbing. Making it was pretty simple, and you could use anything really, but I would suggest something low-stretch that you can tighten effectively. I modeled mine on this one - https://raingler.com/collections/to...newer-toyota-tacoma-accesscab-ceiling-storage - and they used to sell just the mount hardware but I don't see it listed.

As for anchoring it with DIY hardware, I followed the install directions for the product above for mount points but came up with my own hardware. You can run a zip tie or a loop of webbing or whatever else to the latches for the suicide doors by going between the small interior trim piece and the headliner. It takes a little doing, but is quite secure. (Those little airbag emblems are just screw covers or something and not actually where the curtain airbags come out, but I didn't find them to be a useful spot to anchor). You can attach the rear of the net to the same place the rear hanger hooks are, just above the rear window in each corner. Turn them 90 degrees to pull them out, and replace them with alligator-style drywall toggles with the correct size eye bolt in them.

Anyway, having tried it, I took mine down after a few weeks because I found that it really just got in the way more than anything. I'm a tall guy, so unless whatever I was putting up there was very small and flat, I constantly had to deal with the stuff in the net bumping my head and bulging down in front of my rear line of sight. The last straw was when a wadded-up jacket came flying out during a hard brake and I felt like the whole thing was too much of a hazard. YMMV, of course!

Thanks for the write up! I saw a thread about Raingler and how awful a company they were to deal with so I’ve stayed clear of them. Honestly I just want something to throw clothes up there for work or camping. I ripped the jump seats out and have a platform for my dog and just looking for more space. Wish I had a Double Cab but I need a “long” bed (only Toyota thinks 6’ is a long bed lol) and I also wanted a manual trans. Why Toyota doesn’t let you get a DCLB with manual trans I’ll never know.
