    This.
With the lack of visitation out there, any evidence of someone hiking would likely belong to whom they are searching for.
The only area he may have been where that would be an issue is in Palm Canyon, which is the only official hiking trail in the NWR, it receives a lot of foot traffic. Outside of that, tracking him should be relatively easy, unless a large thunderstorm passed through and washed away foot prints.
All other hiking out there is on your own across the open desert or up into desert mountains.

I wish it was more viable. I only know of 1 member in Yuma who isn't very active.

It is also almost 3 hours from Phoenix to where his last check-in was.
    IMG_6938.jpg

It's been about 4.5 years since I was out there my one and only time. I think 1 other AZTW member was out there somewhat recently.

The largest company out there is MCAS Yuma and they already have choppers in the air.

Sorry, I meant outdoors companies. Whether they might have employees vacationing out there or someone out on trails In the area who can lend a hand. Or even connections to aid the party behind the scenes

It is hard to let the professionals and SAR volunteers work without wanting to pitch in, but it might be best. Not commenting on this specific case because I don’t know the details. People should just be aware of this before potentially getting in the way.

    Still hoping for the best.

    @LadyRed

    Leah,
I have been contacted by a member of the Mavic Pilots forum. Here is the post below:

    Rob,

Can you send me (PM if desired) the local contact #'s for someone who wants to reach out and help?

I'll pass these along to our National sUAS SAR group and see if anyone can assist. I belong to a couple of different groups and I'll be more than happy to pass the details along.

    Allen

Leah, I know the military is involved but smaller drones can be a huge asset. If you'd like me to pass the personal information of yours or a representative please PM me and I will PM Allen from the drone forum.

    Thanks,
    Rob

And Border Patrol SAR would be very good at tracking. Once they have a direction of travel, that helps considerably to narrow down the search area, and put teams in x hours ahead based on his travel speed, or check the likely decision points, where a change in direction could occur. Wind is actually the enemy to tracks out there, and the hard, dry surface will make it challenging.

Best offer assistance, by checking in with SAR Management at their Base. Additional resources can be force multipliers, in that public volunteers are supplemented with trained SAR people, and given a specific, planned, assignment, along with communications methods. Far more likely to obtain a positive result, than just random public searching, potentially messing up clues/evidence of where he went.

    Leah,
More info from my contact on the Drone forum:

"We operate within the IC system and do NOT self deploy... period. That's why we request contact info for the local Incident Command/Law Enforcement/Agency etc to reach out and "offer" services. This isn't a "Hobby Endeavor" and we understand what's involved and how to integrate within the system.

I'm just hoping someone in our group is local and can assist. We have a fairly large network but sadly we do not have 100% coverage.... at least not yet."
