Just purchased a yfz450 and wanted to see if any one has had any mod success to get it to fit in a short bed better. One of the tires sits on top of the wheel well but would like it to be more flush

You could run a board across the 2 wheel wells and have both front tires leveled.

In addition to what @rhinopelt said, you can also build a ramp to get it up there a little easier. Like this:

One of the best mods you can do is to sell it and get a dirt bike, plus you'll have more room in the bed of the truck for a cooler filled with beer. :bikewheelie2:

If using frequently, I would consider making a support that stretches from the bed of the truck on to the tailgate. This way not all the rear weight of the quad is sitting on the tailgate. That being said, I have no evidence to support that the tailgate cant hold the weight. Just something to think about.

    this and that...
yeah theres no way around it. i bought a sportsman 110 a few months back so my boy could learn to wheel. loaded it up in the bed and it fit very snuggly with the tailgate up. had the bike a couple weeks and realized it was a piece of junk. so ended up having the dealer take it back and got a recon instead. also loaded it up in the bed, its snug but the tailgate wont close. around this time frame also bought a rubicon for myself. again i utilized the bed to transport. after this i vowed that i was gonna buy a small trailer whenever this island gets their inventory back in stock lol. loading the rubi there was no way the gate was gonna close. sat firmly on the tail. used shockstraps to secure the recon and rubicon during transport. worked awesomely. nice bike btw. my brother has a z400 that just sits. was thinking of grabbing that from him to fool around with. always loved sports quads. i actually miss my old trx450r. that was a mean machine right there.

the pic i linked below is just to show probably the biggest quad you can fit in a shortbed with the tailgate up. as you can see its not a very big bike; its a kids quad.

Ahh thanks for the memory on those 3 wheel death traps. I had a honda 110 growing up in the 80s. Wasn't fast but bout kilt myself on many occasions pushing that thing. Also found out it floated. :D Long story short I fell through some ice during a freak winter storm that froze over a local lake. Did this while my Dad and his buddy were duck hunting and yes I ruined their trip.

Oh yeh and like a few others said get rid of that thing and get a motorcycle. It's safer.

Buy a trailer to haul it on. You're not going to haul much of anything in the bed of a Tacoma. A small utility trailer is easier to load/unload anything you want to haul and will handle more weight than you could put in the bed of a 8' bed 3/4 ton truck.
