i want to get a smaller sport atv eventually (250cc minimum) but I only have 1 truck and it needs to be able to be moved in a short bed. I have a tire gate that leaves a about a 4-5 inch gap from the tail gate. I'm willing to remove the tailgate when moving an atv. I should have about an extra 6 in of space without the gate. Any ideas?

you could fit about anything with the tailgate down and a bed extender. A long bed fits my 450 just fine, but snug, with the tailgate up. Its just a little hard to get it in and over the wheel well.

Do you think airing the atv tires all the way would help if I'm squeezing it in?

Even my kids 250 quad was too big to fit in the short bed with the tailgate up. Even if you air down the tires your still gonna be hitting the chainring/rear skid or grab bars in the back. I am assuming its not easy to remove the rear tire carrier? Not being easily able to drive the truck with the tailgate down when carrying things is the only reason keeping me from getting a swing away tire carrier.

My 2013 Yamaha Grizzly 350 fits in my short bed perfectly between the wheel wells. The rear tires are about centered on the junction of the bed and tailgate. That is one of the shortest and narrowest ATVs available that's not a child's machine.

On a quad like this the tires stick out front and back, I should be able to take out all the air to help push the nose in farther right?

If you're looking at a Raptor, check out the SE. Pictures really don't do this color justice. Pretty rad in person.

Likely still wont be able to shut the tailgate, and you'll also have the bumper hitting the front of the bed and/or back window.

Rear axle to front bumper on mine is over 5 foot.. No way possible mine would fit without the tailgate down even if you took the wheels completely off

I have a 1985 Honda 250 3 wheeler, it's pretty compact and did not fit in my short bed with gate closed

I would love one like that. But I'm too poor to get a new one. There's a few old ones in my area for under 2k

I won't let a bed size determine which ATV I ride. That's a screwed way of thinking. Use a ratchet strap correctly and let it sit on the gate. Buy a trailer and get what you want. Have fun and quit worrying. The tire gate is got you over a barrel.
