Audio Interrupt for Stereo with 2-Way Radio

Guess they really cut on the costs, it be nice CBM-U4 had set screws for various size wires or at least have all 18 awg.

 

Yea, I was surprised they didn't just do 18AWG for every wire at a minimum

And I compiled wire harness schematics with all part numbers and quantities needed. The harnesses will make it easier for quick disassembly and reassembly of the entire rats nest that will be created and will let you avoid having to cut into factory wiring.

Power Harness

Here is the diagram with part numbers and quantities for creating the power harness for all the modules with the CBM-U4 grounded and powered separately from TDS-15A and 2-way radio (all parts can be found at BuyDeutsch.com). The power harness will be the same regardless of year or model of stereo/nav system.



Speaker Harness

And based on @caribe makaira's awesome diagram and info, here is the speaker harness diagram with part numbers and quantities (the DT connector parts can be found at BuyDeutsch.com, the R29 and R30 connector you can source from Toyota, and the pins for the R29 and R30 connectors you can find at Corsa Technic). For all years and models, the part numbers and quantities of each will be the same, wire gauges will also be the same, but pinouts and wire colors may be different.

Pinout references:

• Post #9 for a 2014 Taco.
• Post #30 for a 3rd Gen Taco with built in amp.
• Post #29 for a '05 Taco.

EDITS:

• CBM-U4 moved to its own power and ground wires to avoid sharing fused power and ground with radio and TDS-15A in diagram per Post #23 and Post #28
• Added wedgelock part #'s for DT connectors to power and speaker harness diagrams

Just a suggestion, I would not share fused power and ground of the HF Radio with the CBM-U4.

Is that to prevent a power spike from the radio during transmit from potentially damaging the CBM-U4?

Edited drawing to reflect shared fused IGN & Ground of CBM-U4 with Radio connectors. Keep HF Radio juice and ground separate from everything else.

 

Drawing also works for '05, 2 wire colors change.

 

3rd Gen-Built in Amp

 

When choosing which model of the CBM-U4 to get, I've made a comparison table for the differences among each model.

 

For those who are running dual 2-way radios, Rogus Innovations does have a module that allows for seamless transition between radio sources (a description of how this functions can be found in the instructions at the end of this post). The TDS-15A current sensor will work with dual 2-way radios and has an adjustable threshold. The AI-AB Automatic Switcher is an audio sense device and will work with the TDS-15A.

Instructions for AI-AB Switcher

For reference, the instructions from Rogus Innovations for the AI-AB Switcher are as follows:

 

Will, what happens to the juice to radio from the TDS-15A now that there are 2 radios?

 

Rogus Innovations said to hook up both radios through the same red wire and the TDS-15A will still function as if there is only one radio. It will still detect amp draw and still send a mute signal out the brown wire. I guess the TDS-15A can handle the amp draw of both radios at a time.

 

I'll ask to see to see what the max amperage rating is on the TDS-15A in case someone decides to hook up 2 really beefy radios to it

 

They said the TDS-15A can pass up to 15A

 

All the parts got delivered and I made the wiring harnesses. Going to install this in the rig tomorrow.
