I received it two days ago, and it took me about 10-15minutes for the install. Most of it was trying to drop the trim and putting it back.

I have noticed however, that it sometimes does not start on three lock presses. Is there like a set speed that I have to press the lock button?
If I press it four times, it seems to start consistantly though.
The other thing I have noticed is that while in remote start, the key fob's range drops significantly.

 

If you hit lock 3x quickly it does not send the 3 pulses to the unit. You want to hear the doors click 3 times as that’s the signal the unit receives. So give a 1 second pause between clicks.

 

I’ve been out of the form for some time and I was just browsing through when I saw about the app to remote start your truck. I was just curious on how does this work? Also is there a subscription fee as far as monthly or yearly?

 

It cost 29 a yr, first yr free. It connects into your remote module and sends a signal via the cell module you purchase via the app.

Thank you. When you say door click, I did it everytime I hear my tailgate accuated. Guessing that was still too fast.

Now I give it a good pause in between, and starts up reliably now! Thanks @jmeitz

Also would you know the reason why the key fobs range drops significantly when he vehicle turns on? Could it be all the other wireless signal interference?

 

Not sure on the range drop. It wouldn’t have anything to do with the starter as it just receives lock pulses and not anything signal wise from the remote. Not sure with it running if Toyota does anything with the keyless system to decrease range.

I have a BRAND new kit available if anybody wants it for $185. @jmeitz was awesome and super helpful with everything (especially his Youtube video), but my old lady giving me major guilt trip about having the kit and not "needing" it LOL. Finally, the fact that the engine shuts off when door opens also factored into the decision to not keep it as it doesn't fit our preference or "needs". PM me if interested. Thanks

Yes, you need an hkey kit that is $250.

 

For those that use the cell phone option. Where is the best place to mount it under the dash plastic piece ?

 

I ziptied mine to the black wire loom a few inches above the leg airbag.

Yes, 15 or 20 min. Depending on settings.
