    hey guys,

I have a 13 TRD none jbl speakers. I want to upgrade my speakers only. Don't really want a sub as I have a toddler and don't wana be too loud yet I might consider. I also like the stk head unit as it has everything I need/ want.

I'm by far no expert in systems yet I've had subs etc in my other trucks. I wana keep the taco clean and don't want a stereo shop to hack up .

I'm wanting a good clean crisp/ louder than stock sound - maybe a lil bass. Can I accomplish this without a sub? What is a good brand u guys suggest - clarion/ infinity without breaking wallet. U guys think I can accomplish this with just replacing speakers and tweeters? I assume anything gonna sound better than stock speakers? Will my stock head unit support upgrade without amp?

    Thanks fellas

im no audiophile, but i noticed a bigger difference adding a amp then anything else. as far as speakers goes i have used Alpine and Pioneer and have had great experiences with both. just my opinion though. if you are set on just changing out speakers i think they are just plug and play with the right harnesses from crutchfield.com

yea, before i added my sub i ran component speakers up front and three way speakers in the rear with my amp and i had nice crisp sound. honestly clarity was way more important to me than bass

So I did some research online / yelp.

This guy gave me two options for price.

    A) cerwin vega
Speakers all 4 and wiring and amp install for $ 500

    B) Alpine
Full alpine speakers/ wiring and tweeters and amp install for 720

This guy seems pretty legit/ good yelp reviews and he's mobile. His link below- what you think?

really there are many options. It purely depends on each user, their sound preference and what their budget is

Indeed. What I like in my stereos sound you may not. Tight bass, bright highs. I would suggest going with some music that you're very familiar with and audition speakers, amps to see what sounds good to you.
I would suggest doing a whole system. The non jbl system really isn't much to write home about.

You can just do the speakers and be done. However, if you do decide to go with an amp, you'll want a head unit with pre-amp outputs. Or you'll need an adapter to convert speaker level outputs to line level output to feed the signal to the amp. Kind of defeats the purpose and this also converts the distortion coming out of the radio. You really don't want to amplify distortion...

If buying an amp, buy big. Not to go loud, but for "headroom" so that when you do want to listen to it louder than you normally do, it won't clip the peaks of that hard bass line or the crashing cymbals, which results in distortion. Being, "old school," I like class A or AB amplifiers. Warmer sound imo. Class C,D amps are very efficient and come in smaller packages though.

And look at speaker efficiency, higher efficiency will will produce higher volumes at a given input. The drawback being less accuracy in the music being reproduced.

Good luck and let us know what you end up with. :pccoffee:I

Crutchfield - ck out the Infinity or Polks, both have great sound. I have factory JBL premiums with no amp and I get great separation and over all sound quality is strong. Good luck!

The junky factory speakers will have "lower" lows if that makes sense. That is strictly a strange benefit of shitty quality paper coned speakers. It's not good quality though.

What up guys - so i bit the bullet and did a alpine upgrade! Went with the type R alpine speaker SPR front and rear with components and a AMP-no sub while using my stk head unit. Dyno matted my doors too! Damn what a clean sound. The stereo shop I went to was really good and educated me and had 3 different listening stations-went over my budget and got best bang for buck. If i could afford the falco -they sound amazing!Just can see paying 300-700 in speakers alone. Maybe down the line Ill upgrade to those speakers. Its crazy how clean a system can sound without a sub. With my set up im able to get mild base. Originally, I was gonna get a sub but with my 2 year old in the back and now 30- I dont think ill need it. Plus the way my truck sounds right now-I'm very pleased with the sound quality. Down the line I might get a bigger AMP. on a side note- the show owner told me the Taco head unit is made by alpine- any of you hear about this?

We just did these in the front of my son's 2015 non-JBL this past weekend:

Huge upgrade from the stock speakers. For $60.00 the sound is much cleaner and a very good start.

I'm 47 and I think I need a bigger sub and more power! I only have 550 watts total.

Man you guys are tempting me to upgrade with a sub and bigger amp! I have alpine type R speakers and the shop giving me a good deal- will buy back sub they just installed (200.00) and for 250-300 more ill get a arc audio amp 5 channel. Sounds like a good deal, i just wasn't planning on spending more. haha . Don't get me started on a sub.

What's up guys - so as mentioned I went with a alpine speaker and amp upgrade (no sub) and I love it. Sounds clean/ mild bass with crisp- which anything better than stock. Really happy with outcome ! my situation- being a man is we are never satisfied haha! So the pickle I'm in as the shop is obviously offering me deal to upgrade. The amp i have is a digital alpine 4 channel @ 50 watts. The speakers I have are type R's and from what I understand they are rated higher than my amp- so they can be louder etc. The set up I have is great and i love the sound.

The pickle- the shop told me over time, I might get use to volume and that's what im thinking- shall i go for the bigger amp. the shop owner-really cool and I felt comfortable with him says he will give me one week to try out amp- and if I want to upgrade, he will buy mine back (what I paid) 170-200 and put it towards a Arc Audio amp 5 channel @ 80 watts( I think). He says this amp will give more life to my speakers ( full potential) and I have option to add sub down the line since its a 5 channel. My question- should i bite the bullet and pay 300 more for the amp? I'm no expert but herd arc audio is far better of alpine amps?

Again its another 300- gonna try to work him and see what kind of deal i can get.
