this might be best in the 2nd gen thread. but regardless, is it factory or aftermarket radio? if there is no static on a CD (or usb if aftermarket) then it would be more then likely an antenna issue.

I had a similar problem with a Ranger I bought several years ago. The radio had the worse reception I've ever seen and noise coming through the speakers.

Best Buy put the radio I wanted on sale, so I snatched it up and installed it. Same problem.

I lived with it for over a year completely perplexed. I've been an electronics tech for 40+ years and I was stumped.

By chance, I went on a long drive with a friend and grabbed my cigarette lighter USB charger so I could charge my phone on the trip.

My friend commented that his radio was acting weird all of a sudden. Eureka!

I unplugged the charger module and the radio acted normally again. The charger way dying and generating noise on the way out.

A new module solved the problem permanently.
