I thought about this as well. The Rockford's I used have a tweet in the rear 6.5's, but the front 6x9's "appears" that it doesn't. Even with more tweet I does not feel overwhelming. Quite balanced actually, Plus you can adjust the treble on the stereo.

Installed the below (took advantage of lower prices on Black Friday)

    Fronts: Rockford Fosgate R169X2
    Tweeters: Rockford Fosgate R1T-S
    Rears: Rockford Fosgate R165X3

Nice clean install! How hard was it to run that wiring?

Those fronts do in-fact have a tweeter, its just not like a tradition coax speaker where the tweeter sticks out. For most people its not really a issue, some people say they can hear a time difference when there are 4 tweeters in 4 places playing the same sound. Its like a slight echo.

My tacoma has the tweeters up in the sail panels, then I have 2 inch mid range speakers in the dash plus 6x9 woofers in the doors. Sounds really nice, but the high and mid can get over powering.

I dont think there is much info out there as most people who spring for the jbl system got it so they dont have to mess with new speakers.

But, if you can get wire diagrams and amp pinouts of the stock system you could pretty easy put in new amps and speakers.

From the little that I know about the system, each speaker runs on its own channel to the amp. The non-jbl system the tweeters and the woofers in the doors run on the same channel.

So, you could replace the speakers, put in a 6 channel amp (4 channels front, 2 rear) in and use active crossovers to get the right freq to each speaker.

No echo noticed as well surprisingly no distortion. I’ve cranked it max volume from electronic, metal, and classics. I love hearing the symbols smash in hard rock songs with the clean vocals.

My last taco had full amped infinity components and 2 infinity Kappa 10’s behind the seat, but now that I’m a bit older (probably a little more deaf too) the setup I just did is more than enough (just missing a little bass)

Thanks! Not hard at all, just pulling the door sill trim and seat.

Im the same way, back when I was younger I had a 1987 bmw 535is, I had 3 way infinity beta components in the front, 2 way components in the back and a 10 inch infinity beta sub. All running off PPI pc2350 and pc650 amps. My old 1989 toyota pickup was running infinity 1.1cs (6x9, 4, emit tweeter) jbl gtx subwoofers and xtant amps.
I still have the 1.1 cs components, the kappa 10s, jbl gtx 8s, alot of old jbl gt amps (gts, gth, gtq) and some infinity kappa 54a and 202a amps. I even have a pair of infinity kappa uniplane 80f and 42f shallow speakers (under 1 inch depth)

Now I have 2 kids of my own, value storage space more than sub boxes, but still like to have a decent audio system. Right now mine is just about perfect for me, it needs a little more bass, but I am hoping that adding a audio control amp will get rid of the factory bass tune down. If its still not enough, I may look into a subwoofer, but it needs to be integrated like the factory subwoofer.

Can definitely agree on the space with kids part. Sounds like you are a bit more of an audiophile than me lol. I just like my music sounding good to pass the time in my commute and keep me smiling.

Anyone live in Massachusetts or Connecticut who has installed either the OEMaudioplus system or the Taco tunes system?

I was, my hearing is not as good as it was when I was younger. I cant tell the difference anymore between a $100 set of speakers and a $700 set of speakers. But I know the quality difference and that the more expensive ones will probably last longer.

I never get the volume past halfway. If I want to listen loud, I dj weddings and get my fill of it.

I installed a set of Infiniti speakers. The sound quality is fantastic.

I have a dumb question and a stupid problem. I upgraded my tweeters on my 3rd gen with the kickers referenced all over the place. I noticed a day later that my A pillar trim didn’t look right, the bottom appeaed out of place. I just messed with it and the stupid red clip located in the middle of the trim popped off and fell into my dash. I heard it bounce on a few things and I can’t tell where it landed. I’m going to hold off from ripping my dash apart and just hope there is not rattle. My question is how do you know if the pillar is installed correctly? I didn’t take a before photo. It looks better now but could still be wrong. Hoping this won’t mess w/my airbag performance.
Has anyone else lost the clip and was it recoverable? I am so mad at myself right now. I used be an interior materials engineer for Honda R&D and should know better.

Ok, I think I got it. Let’s just hope the clip or lack of clip does not cause some sort of problem
