I would think it would, these trucks have 15 year old speakers so just from old age they will probably get tinny when they separate from the magnet.

you spent the money on a good system so get good speakers designed to work with it and run all new 18 gage speaker wire to handle the extra power

when you change them remember you need to buy a 1/4" spacer gasket so they fit, oem speakers are much thinner then aftermarket ones and will not fit unless you use a spacer or start cutting things to make room

if you have 01-04 its going to be 6x8 speakers front and rear, earlier trucks I "think" use either 5" or 5 1/2" round speakers front and rear but I cant recall for sure the size

I also "strongly" suggest you sound deaden your doors if you want good sound, it makes 1000% better sound

I used it in mine and it stopped 90% or road noise and the base I get from speakers doubled because of the added insulating of the sound mat

there is a forum just on doing sound systems you should check out, its a mixture of different generation trucks but its all about making sound systems work best https://www.tacomaworld.com/forums/audio-video.12/

I cant recall the name of it but I used a peel and stick thick rubberized mat with foil backing to deaden and quiet road noise and make the door feel and sound more solid, it also seals up any and all drafts from air coming in, then a thin peel and stick foam sheet goes over the top of it for added sound deadening (along with a 12" square just behind the speaker itself) and this reflects all the sound "into" the truck rather then just vibrating your doors.

read my thread here, it has lots of good advice for upgrading your sound system https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/upgrading-sound-system-speaker-and-stereo-questions.384747/

I bought some nice Rockford-Fosgate P16's to replace the old stock round ones. I just bought a speaker harness adapter to use the factory wiring. Is it worth it to run new speaker wire and an amp? I have a Kenwood KSCSW11 underseat subwoofer.

yes it is, those factory speaker wires are something like 24 gage wire (think sewing thread) so if you are trying to run a better system, carrying more wattage then these wires are able to handle, then those wires wont cut it for what you are putting through them but yes it will actually work and make noise.

what you are talking about here is not wanting to run $10 worth of new better speaker wires that you "know" will let the full potential of your systems wattage come through. it would be crazy to cheap out on the speaker wires after investing in a good sound system

Would you need an amp to run new speaker wire?

I think the question is if you put an amp "should you" upgrade your speaker wires and that answer would be yes

to be perfectly honest you never really "need" to upgrade the wires, but if you adding wattage and power to get the full benefit of that, then in that case you need better wires. you are only going to get out what the wires can handle, bigger wires can handle more power and amperage then smaller wires.

im no sound expert so im not the guy to tell you you need x y and z to run this amp with that sub woofer and these speakers, but I do know electricity and amperages, and wires are only able to handle so much and bigger wires are "always" better. oem wiring is bare minimum designed for the factory sound system only
