I’m not sure how the competition did, but Toyota sold 20,770 trucks last month. That’s a respectable number even by Tacoma standards.

I’m starting to see them more and more in my area. I saw a 2024 black OR this morning, followed by a 3rd gen. The size difference is pretty apparent. It’s a full-size!

Anyway, congrats to Toyota. Maybe I should buy more stock. :D

Until this week I had not seen one other one and I live literally right by the Toyota plant in KY (albeit they don't make the Tacoma but plenty of execs). In the last 2 days I have seen no less than 10 on the road. Funny thing is ALL with the ugly snowplow still on. I guess they are trying to compete with the Charger and Challenger owners with the yellow rubbers on.;-)

Who buys 20,770 Tacoma trucks in August of 2024? 20,770 people didn't walk into Toyota dealerships and drive off in a Tacoma. Was it Hertz, ADT, Toyota dealerships, Carvana? It was somebody I'd just like to see the price Hertz or who ever pays. There are going to be allocations in there somewhere adding to the total.

Toyota must have built a good number of trucks to rearch 20,770 and continue to have low/moderate amount of trucks on inventory. The more they build the more they sell continues to be true.

I'm wondering if Toyota is done building 24s for the year or if production continues. I'm thinking when they stop building that will be it until January, and every truck would be a 25. I can't see 25s going into production yet. Toyota has also been silent on the 2025 Tacoma, it would be fake news anyway as there aren't any significant changes on the new truck. Still no word from Toyota unless something has been released this week.

GM claims their midsize sales are improving, didn't bother looking into that. Saw a nice Canyon today, and I thought it was a Lexus SUV of coures. That front end with the DRL and it was covered in chrome, nope GMC with a bed.

Didn’t look at the twins (GM is difficult to find data on), Ranger sold 5,660 in August so Toyota will continue dominating market. Nissan never sold over 7,000 in any month for Frontiers this year.

Should be interesting to see if they can keep the run rate at 20k per month or higher.

That would be good for us Toyota lovers. It’s the only truck I will ever buy. Have been driving trucks since 1977 and Toyotas since 1998. Nothing else even matters to me

I think people forget Nissan sells trucks when they are buying. Nissan needs to get more competitive with pricing, but I don't think they are interested in selling more trucks, and having to build more trucks to meet that demand. Not too many Nissan Frontier loyalists to really move trucks. 1/2 tons still offer a better value for the money when discounted, and market adjustments are pretty much over on the midsizes.

This is easy to figure out or at least estimate if you divide that total by the dealers, then factor in what was clear in my July purchase - a lot of vehicles with due dates coming, and my sorting and searching on Toyota web site May - July showed a whole lot of committed to sale vehicles not yet landed. Some of the dealers with incoming or searching for me said they would have dozens sold when they get made. A dealer I drive by up to several times a week finally had a row of them late July and early August with 1 Tacoma and 4 Tundra this past Labor Day weekend.

The dealer I go by often is also the region's largest and their web site had what was an easy guess for a fleet sale that was 10 SR and the lots in this region don't usually have many.

20,000 sold in a month would also be as simple or boring as getting ramped up or resuming prior generation sales history.

The growing sales volume supports these are not the junk show some think. No news of several thousand failed engines, manual or auto transmissions and clutches. Chit chat at dealer from my July delivery was a lot more showing up then as well. August got me follow up contact from other dealers who finally had what I was looking for.

Prior sales do indicate Toyota is capable of selling that number of trucks. The majority of new sales are probably people trading their truck for new. I belive the numbers.

I don't believe the trucks are junk, but I wouldn't use sales numbers to determine the quality of the vehicle.

From prior experience in an auto industry parts supplier, now experience in another industry subject to recalls, the 100,000 plus sold and miles adding up do not yet point to problems as some seem to think.

My days ahead can help test because it looks like 5-600 miles of actual truck work including slow unpaved and 400 miles of loaded interstate/freeway travel.

Two factories combined with heavy discounts should move at least 20k units per month, and probably much more, once they balance out the trim availability. But more important is that new owners who spent their own money so far give Gen4 almost unanimous approval.

Back in 2016, Gen3 was plagued with complaints about shifting characteristics, torque delivery, and seating position, stuff inherent to the engineering, not to mention a lot of unwanted baggage carried over from Gen2.

On Gen4, I just see a decent truck with reasonable early questions about its initial (and long term) quality. Otherwise, with discounts, it’s another big success.

Quoted for truth. That's literally my only concern, questionable reliability. It's worlds better than 3rd gen outside of that. Granted I had low expectations because I didn't like the 3rd gen, so I was fully blown away when I drove it which influenced my buying decision.

(oops, I meant to quote Lunar Squirrel above)As far as getting discounts, it's not clear to me that Toyota has a good handle on which Tacoma trims, colors, and options (or even the right mix of hybrid vs non-hybrid) are in demand in a give market area. Getting a good discount is heavily dependent on buying a truck a given dealer has in stock, or is incoming. If you have to order a truck that is pre-destined for another dealer, the odds of any meaningful discount seem low in comparison; dealers seem to view this as equivalent to a special order and in turn not discounted. Plus there are still dealers adding unearned markup to vehicles. Just saying, I'm less optimistic than you are, that heavy discounts are near. I'd love to be wrong though ;o).

I've seen quite a few 24 Tacoma's all over my local area, they seem very popular and my local dealership has 15+ on the lot.

I have not been aware of Toyota discounts as one post says, or at least in my region. Starting mid-summer I did however start seeing dealer discounts that have not been present for a good while.

Is that combined Tacoma and Tundra "trucks" or just Tacoma's?
