My aunt is not doing well at all. She has been battling cancer for about a year and took a drastic turn for the worst last night. She started having trouble breathing and was rushed to the hospital. Her blood pressure was down in the 50's and had to be put on oxygen. She has been a DNR (do not recessatate) patient for years so there were not many options for treatment. The hospital wanted to transfer her to a specialized hospital center but she was not stable enough for ground transport and the helicopter would not fly due to the storms we have been having the past two days.

She is one of four girls that all still live on the family farm and the youngest of the four. Once family started coming to the hospital the fued began over her being a DNR patient. After a few hours she decided to be a DNI (do not intibate) patient. This still didn't stop some of the family and then she made the decision to be a full code (any treatment option) patient. She has heard all the arguing and discussion and it has made it harder on her. This obviously is a huge issue in the family now.

As of a few hours ago they were able to transfer her to a specialized hospital. She is now intibated and on a breathing machine. Her heart is at 20%. The doctor has listed her as being in grave condition and does not think she will make it through the day. My wife is a cardiac nurse and has been looking over the test results too and it doesn't look good.

Just keep my aunt in your prayers that she will be comfortable and when the time comes she will be peaceful. Also for my family as it seems that this fued has just begun and hope we are all able to be the family we always have been no matter what the outcome is.

Sorry it has been a few days but it has been busy around here. My aunt passed Tuesday night after being taken off all life support. She had three clogged arteries (spelling) at more then 90%. Also come to find out from different families members she has been having symptoms of a female heart attack a few days prior to going to hospital. The doctor seems to think that she possibly had three heart attacks in two weeks, two at the hospital and the last one being major. Services are tommorrow and her only request was to be creamated and her ashes spread over the family farm. Thank you for all your prayers.

Sorry for your loss, it seems as though she wanted things done HER way and hopefully your family will heal from all of the confusion and upset. Everyone has an idea of what was best for her and the only one who knew was your auntie. I'm glad to know she had the final decision on what to do with her ashes.

Hopefully there's no more squabbling or bad feelings held amongst family members. What's done is done and her soul needs to rest now.

Be at peace knowing she's okay now and honor her by taking all that she's taught you and pass it on. :)
