Depends.

Without Cali plates - just try and stay West of IH-35, for the most part, or North, and you'll be alright.

With Cali plates... I hear up near Dallas is a pretty nice area?

Depends on where you are working and what you consider to be expensive. If your job is in North Austin, stick to something north of the Domain. If you’re in south Austin, stick to Slaughter or farther south, and west toward Brodie. If you’re working east side...uh, live in Manor and commute (armed. We all have guns here). If you’re on the west side, I’d suggest some place around 2244 (Bee Caves Rd).

and other property all over Austin and the surrounding areas....it is how I found a place before I left Kalifornia. It is FREE also...
