I want to be able to separate the two. In the long run the second battery is supposed to power a fridge/freezer.

Trying to avoid that, that thing kills the battery......

 

Two batteries is a better set up, you have the option of a back up starting battery that way. Also, if you did it right, could run both on high load demands like when you run the winch.
