I'd rather live in the homeless camp than live north of the river :bananadead:

Isn't south of the river all considered a homeless camp?:boink::bananadead:

Once you go far enough west, it turns back to a cool place imo

I have a feeling that it will go up quick. Amazon is already hiring for the site next door to me and they only have framework up. I'm sure Tesla will interview prior to building completion as well.

They'll bring a lot of people from their other plant too, pretty anyone above "Janitor" will be a mix of a successful, Tesla trained staff and the newbies. Will teach them the Tesla ways, etc etc.

One big concern: I don't know what it's like working for supreme overlord Uncle Elon. Have talked to someone who knows someone at SpaceX, supposedly: Nothing bad at all, and killer Christmas parties.

I’d you go to Tesla website and look under Careers, you can search for Austin. There are several openings already listed, mostly for facilities at this time.... project management and safety as well as I&C techs.

I’m all in, don’t even need a raise to go. The opportunity to get into a new facility is hard to pass up.

Yeah the early birds who will have say-so in layout, design, etc. makes sense actually.

New Facility - This is fair, I am in a "new" plant (old building, but we overhauled the interior when we moved in back in 2012, I started in '16). I don't need a raise to go but that's because I'd probably be hopping engineering branches from QA to MFG, maybe. And, it would allow me to move to Austin, so, there's that :D (I'm like an impending train wreck, I'm coming, but we just don't know when :p)

A lot of my friends work for Space X and a couple at Tesla, mostly on the engineering, metallurgy and program management side. Company is extremely demanding and you will put in a lot of work. At least for Space X, most people last 2-3 years. However, they compensate extremely well in benefits - bonus, on site amenities, and ability to work on cutting edge technology. Friends at Tesla are now millionaires due to the stock jump over the last 6-7 months. If you are willing to put the work in, day in and day out, it is a no brainer working for them.

you have described the silicone valley mentality.... its like this at nearly all successful tech ventures based out of that area.

Sounds about right. Where I am now, it's less being driven to 80hr/weeks, etc. That's the point: I am not about that life. I way rather enjoy my day, every day, outside, exploring walking running biking whatever, than I do working for 12 hours a day for 5, and then taking my weekends. I'd prefer to work weekends than extended days. When my plant started talking 4x10 I told my boss if we make that switch, I am leaving - not a threat one way or another or anything, but I don't want to come home at 7 and have 2 less hours every day for the one extra day, that's my mentality.

I'm fine with some long hours here and there, but an all day every day 12+ hours a day? No thanks, I'll take my time over more money.
