It’s the REI Kingdom Porch that we scored on sale a couple months ago. It straddles the tailgate nicely. Today we had 20 mph winds on the beach. Pointed the nose of the truck into the wind, guy roped the shade to the roof rack and used Kelty sand bag stakes on each of the legs. Frankly, I’m impressed we were able to keep this up all day in this wind.

Ended up getting that shell from the guy down in Austin. He was apologetic about making me drive out Tuesday but I made him knock the price down to cover my time and fuel. Also texted him every 15 minutes making sure he was still fine with our deal. Thanks again to all that offered to store it.

:censored: AutoZone, now and forever. Was in the one on East Whitestone about 10 days ago, asked for the 10% military discount, and the :censored: store manager asked for ID. Forgetting I have VETERAN on my DL, I told her I don't carry around my DD214. She conferred with the counter monkey, who rang me up, and when he handed my my receipt, a quick glance revealed no discount. I pointed this out to the counter monkey, who tried to act like it was a system error. He went back in the stacks to confer with the manager, who came out and told me no ID, no discount. I told her to refund my money, and that I was in the military before she was born. I left the store and ordered the stuff on Amazon, sitting in the parking lot...

I feel like all autozones are snobby as fuck, at least the two on 1431 in CP. Everytime I go to dump oil, they gotta sniff the muffukka and ask me 20 fucking questions about it. When I go to any Advance auto, all they do is ask of I know where the dump drum is.

I think it has something to do with people mixing coolant and oil and they're just making sure its not mixed. Walmart is capable of taking old coolant and oil.

Made it back safe and sound. Enjoyed the sand and surf right up to the last moments before Beta.

The drive home was an interesting one because of 20+ mph winds from the 10 o’clock to 3 o’clock the entire way. Didn’t feel “unsafe” at any point and the R-Pod pulled well, but damn... only averaged 7.8mpg and spent most of the time at 65mph in 4th.

Second trip and the lady is ready to boondock and get away from everyone else.

Also, the Cooper ST/Maxx tires are beasts on the sand... in the dry stuff and the mushy stuff. I was a bit concerned with the storm surge at high tides yesterday but 4-Lo and MTS set to mud/sand and it was a breeze. Lots of others were stuck AF.

I’m calling our first Texas beach trip a success.

I know it should have been obvious, but the stock leafs after 170K miles were well past due for replacement.

Swapped in a Deaver 8 pack with some Duro Bumps and extended the rear brake line in the beautiful weather we had over the weekend. No cutting required!

Several threads on this, but whats the local consensus on rock sliders weld on vs bolt on.
2020 TRD off road that I plan to have for 10+ years at least so resell isn't as much of a concern, tough the permanent nature of a mod gives me a little pause. Cost is the factor here with weld on being much cheaper. I haven't met anyone that hasn't gone with bolt on. It's my daily driver and offroad to hwy use is about 20/80 split with that 20% being relatively tame, no rock crawling here and not trying to build into one. Just looking for the protection without spending a grand that could go to paying the machine off.

Weld on is less expensive up front, but if you dont have a welder, then your paying labor. Bolt on is way more expensive up front, but if they're no drill, they aren't extremely difficult to install. Weld on will stand up to more abuse, where as bolt ons are only as strong as the sheer strength of a single bolt. Typically you will not put enough load on a bolt on to cause damage. I personally like the 4xInnovations weld on. The lowest price model is all round tube and that is stronger than what you will most likely ever put them through.

Youll see here HREW with kick out is $245 and most likely in stock.
