Desire to buy another Taco intensifies!

Anyone know when they are doing another generational update? I kinda miss my 2016 but don’t want to buy if they are changing the models again soon.

 

Last I heard was that Toyota was engineering a totally new truck platform in the Tacoma/Tundra, and they'd be varying configurations of a single base that built up based on trim. No confirmation, but a hybrid option was mentioned, no details on engine.

Then again, Toyota is so anal in their R&D that they won't even mention something is in development until it's already passed early round testing.

 

That's the rumor every year. And pics of test trucks, with detail hiding crap on them, pop up all the time. A buddy in NM just sold his Gen 2 Tundra and bought a Dodge , because he was tired of waiting for a diesel...

 

I got to have dinner with the regional Toyota reps a week or two ago. I got out of one of them, that the 2022 Tundra will be a V6 hybrid pushing 500hp. He didn't say if that was the only powertrain option, or just one choice, but I guess we all kinda knew it would go that way eventually. He didn't mention the Tacoma, but again, it'll go that route eventually, and later on I'm sure it'll be full electric.

Tbh, I'm not super upset about it. Plenty of torque for offroading, and I suppose you could drive them underwater if the battery is sealed well enough lol. Biggest drawback is obviously range and ability to charge in the middle of nowhere (IE, where we all wish we were right now).

 

Got the QuikRak for my RollNLock today, which I'm super stoked about. Means I can keep the RnL, which I have actually grown fond of, and won't have to get a hitch rack.

And the Track Mount from Expedition Essentials showed up, as well. Goody, goody gumdrops.

Yessir, got it installed today. I dig it. Low key and flexible.

 

Got the same set up with expedition essentials, and I'm diggin the low profile mount too! Got a pair of X-Grips and some short arm mounts to go with the rail.
