Agreed. I live and work south, and I spend zero hours stuck in the Interstate Parking Lot known as IH-35. If you get a position north, though, stay north.
It's a tech and sales town. If you have IT skills or you're good at getting other people to buy shit, there are more jobs than people to do them. Otherwise, it's hit or miss. We have a lot of mid-level IT security contract positions we have a hard time keeping filled because people use them to come to Austin, then start looking for other work immediately.

I suggest you check out the Texas Workforce Commission's site. They run a job board that's like Monster but you don't have to pay for it. http://www.twc.state.tx.us/ - you're a "job seeker."

    Good luck brother!

Sooooooooooooooooo, the yellow junk huptie is no more......

They got a check engine light and while checking it out (idling) it blew up.

Bearing on the vacuum pump seized, caused the cam to stop and the pistons slammed into the valves.... :bananadead:

Pfff I had it for 5 miles. Drove it to work from the shop and they towed it right back for a coolant leak.....

Haven't had it back since then.

I my experience, live where you want as you are more likely to change your job than your house. I work from home for 6 years now, so no traffic in my life. If you have to commute, this would change it all. The commute sucks ball sack if you are going north or south. Going east or West isnt bad.

Last one just got claimed. I can PM Bob for more, but we should probably have them go to someone on the north side next time.

I'm allergic to going north of the river.

What is your particular area of expertise as far as job searching goes? I have a fairly decent network of people I talk to and deal with. Also, are you a veteran?

Harrington Industrial Plastics is moving to a larger facility near Parmer and Mopac. That means to me that they will also be expanding their sales force as well. It's a very central location for the Austin area, and you could live where ever you wanted. If you happen to apply with them and get an interview, you can drop my name. Those guys take me out to lunch fairly often, super nice people. Also TDI and DSI operate in this area, they're mechanical contractors. LCRA is a good one, but you gotta know someone to get your foot in, I know only a few people there. Then all of the tech here. TI, Samsung, Motorola, Apple, Dell, 3M, just to name a few. I'm sure there are more than a hundred other names to look for. Your best bet for actually getting a job here is a head hunter. Companies pay them to find talent, you just have to find the right head hunter. Let me know if there is anything you need to know, and if something pops up here at my company, I'll let you know. If I recommend someone, they get an automatic interview.

Truth. The headhunter that placed me is constantly asking me if I know any other folks who are available...and I left them three years ago.
