Trails and places to wheel? Not really  Camping? there are places to camp, but I don't know about out of your truck, if that's what you were wanting to do. And fish? sure!

Damn, I've been out there before- but didn't do any research on the subject- sounds harsh..

Yeah man, one thing you won't find here, or indeed ANYWHERE east of Colorado, is BLM land...

Good luck is all I'll say.... it's worse than Mardi Gras. I've never been and lived in Austin all my life. Not sure about a meet, traffic is too crazy downtown during that 3 week event. People from all over come rent out apartments and everyone from Austin leaves, at least most of my friends do.

Welcome to Austin, just keep checking in on this thread for when more details come. We have not had a meet in a month or so due to weather but we usually have one on the last weekend of every month. stay tuned!

Also, check out ToyotaOff-Road.com for more local offroading information

ACL isn't too bad. Above post sounds more like SXSW. The fest is only 3 days and saturday is always the craziest. It's a clusterfuck for those of us who live here but it's nice to be able to go in and out and not be stuck in the middle of nowhere. I wouldn't plan on driving much that weekend, at least in the general central area. The rest of the city is pretty much unaffected by it.

Friday's lineup is pretty legit, kind of wish they spread it into Saturdays lineup so I could see more of the bands I want to see. My cousin live in pflugerville so my boy and I just taxi in and out. However, 6th street on saturday was way more rediculous then friday.

You must not be big into music. Nor understand what ACl is LOL, 3 week event. Its 3 days. And yes downtown is crazy which makes it amazing. Last time we were down for it some Austrailian chick straight up asked me if I was down for a gang bang.

well let me know if you guys want to meet up on the outskirts for some grub er something mid day saturday.

Being a Video/Music Producer and editor, I don't really know that much. It is the scene that has changed and the priorities of the event have morphed into a advertisement for non-local artists to expose them selves at Austin's Local Music Fest. I've lived here all my life and have not seen it this bad. I must not be into music I guess except I film shows weekly on top of my regular full time job at Whole Foods Market

Guess not, booo on advertisers and bigger band names becuase they bring in bigger crowds which make more money for the local economy. Yes boooo on you ACL, booo on you very much.

You can thank C3 for that. They're coachella'ing Austin. ACL is gonna be 2 weekends starting next year. The first 3-4 years of the festival were magical. Now it's just whoever the other festivals are using. Still, I don't see it affecting the city more than 4-5 days including the fest. Next year, however, it's gonna be straight up baby SXSW style. Ugh.

Bear in mind that at this point it's supposed to be the same lineup on both weekends. Should make for some good shows around town in-between them I reckon.

What? I haven't understood pretty much all of the responses to my original question.

TX is a monster state- it could take all day to get across it  Which means it could most likely not be close haha.

I'm moving to a place literally next to Zilker Park, so walkable to ACL- stoked on that!

Beautiful area, busy too but has a lot of great places to eat. I would say the nearest off road park would be Marble Falls. That's about a 90 minute to 2 hour drive.

Dang- that's a ways away. Yeah, tons of awesome places to eat for sure!

Does anybody know what happened to Romeo's??

That was my favorite spot. I heard something about the renter.. but they always crushed it for business, so it's not like they couldn't pay the rent.

How about for fishing- does anybody fish in Lake Austin?

Not sure about Romeo's, a lot of biz change yearly on Barton Springs, besides Chuy's and Shady Groves. As for fishing, Lake Austin has nice large mouth bass, perch, and catfish. Lake Bastrop is nice and also Lake Travis and Lake Marble Falls. Travis has big alligator gar too
