Damn I just had mine go out like 3 weeks ago. Spent the money on one from Toyota, figured the first one lasted 282k so I’ll be happy to get the same out of this one.

What cbi bumper did you go with? Tire swingout too?

I'm sure I'd love having a manual, but with full time college and work I just don't have the time to do the swap right now.

Some day it will have a manual trans... and long travel...

It's the CBI bushmaster 1.0. I had them build it without the side protection tubes because I don't think they look very nice. If I decide I want side protection down the road I can just add them myself.

I don't have a swingout, but plan on making a removable swingout that attaches via two 1'' receivers on each side of the bumper. I can just plug the two receivers with a little plastic receiver plug when I'm not using the swingout. Should be pretty clean looking and easily removable.

I'm not sure what the issue is yet. I'm going to take it to a shop soon and have them diagnose it.

The transmission is slipping like crazy when trying to accelerate. It'll grab, and then slip, over and over as I accelerate. It makes the truck jerk back and forth as it grabs and slips. When at a constant speed on flat ground it drives okay.

Well I had a transmission shop go through the transmission and they said it's in perfect condition...

Anyone know what else this could be? The truck feels absolutely gutless just like a slipping transmission would feel. Also, I'm not getting any codes. I checked for codes, as well as the shop that checked out my transmission.

Throttle position sensor, it could be bad and not set any codes, if you had a scan tool that displays live data you could see throttle percentage compared to actual throttle and that could greatly affect how the trans acts.

Or cam position sensor. Check your timing as you drive. Does it drive normal like till 3k?

Doesn't drive normal no matter the rev range or speed. Could it still be a cam position sensor then?

Thanks for the info! I'll give that a try. Sure would be nice if it's something as simple as a sensor.

Yeah could be any of those. Hard to know which one. Could be the water temp sensor or even the maf or o2..

Okay. I'll probably start with the TPS because the symptoms seem the closest to what I'm experiencing. Unfortunately I have one of those 4 prong 03-04 year TPS sensors that are hard to find.

Have fun cutting into the bed...took me and my bro in law two tries to get it right. Didn't want to cut too much off the first time.

Do you have any idea where to start cutting? CBI said they didn't have any instructions.

I used these same references to figure out a starting point. We were about 3/4" off on our first attempt. Here are the photos from my bumper install:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/synergy10s-02-extra-cab-build.287417/page-11#post-17249979

I can try to get a pic of the bedside with a measuring tape up against it to give you an idea. You'll have to wait till tomorrow though.

    **EDIT**
It's sort of coming back to me now. I want to say the last cut was close to being above the blue tape in the pic (first cut was below it). Really close to being even with the part that is circled in blue:

    Thanks for all the info!

So how close to that bottom flap on the tailgate you have circled was your cut? slightly above, even, or slightly below?

From what I can recall the cut was practically even with it. I'll get some pics tomorrow at work. Got home pretty late and had some errands to run.

Took a closer look and it’s just a tad lower than that bottom flap (pics show the cut and bottom of flap to be almost even):
