    That's still almost 50,000 USD.

You can buy houses in some parts of the USA for that.

    But still very, very nice.

The hood struts are aftermarket. very neat mod, try searching Auto part traders in Thailand, they usually have these.

I dont like diesel hilux's because compared to the V6 4L they are a slug. Enough torque, but no horsepower and as I always say, "theres no substitute for cubic inch and horsepower"

This is my everyday work/weekend car, on open roads it has no problems sitting on 200km/h and when I really open it up, 220-230km/h and feels like it will still keep going, but im not game enough for that on our roads.

Remember: Fuel is the least of your cost's of owning a car, so you may as well get something that you will enjoy. Fuck fuel economy, fuck greeny's :D

I have a VW diesel and I love the 40+ miles per gallon. If you haven't heard of it, Mahindra is importing a diesel with a six speed automatic and supposedly gets 30 MPG (Miles per gallon). My VW has 100 Horse Power and I normally cruise around 78 Miles Per Hour. Although there is no problem to let her cruise at 85 MPH. I don't think alot of people understand the torque thing as I didn't until I bought my diesel. By the way South Africa labor is excellent. You guys can build some really sturdy stuff that last. And the 197 HP is plenty for what most of us in America do with our trucks....

30 MPH is nothing to brag about. One of our extra cars is a Corolla and it's consistently gets 42 MPG+ on the highway. Hvae enven got it to over 50 MPG on one trip.

The service costs of a VW just put it out of sight.

Not like the old days when you could do it yourself on the cheap.

The Corollas are great! Especially with a 5spd. I had an older 98 and I usually got about 38mpg granted that was mostly city, with highway mixed in and it had over 100,000 miles on it. If I can ever convince the wife, I'd get another corolla for a daily driver. And park the truck for weekends and trips!

Nope, you must be confused, all 3.0 Litre D4D hilux's are 126 horsepower and 376Nm of torque.

There is no way on earth that toyota would produce a 197hp diesel hilux. you must be confusing it with the standard 4Litre V6 hilux with has 187hP.

If there is a 197hP diesel hilux, then count me in.

    The 3.0L common rail turbo-diesel makes 126kW and 343 N-M of torque

    1 HP = .746kW
    1 ft-lb = 1.356 N-m

    126 / .746 = 168 HP
    343 / 1.356 = 253 ft-lb torque

That really is not very impressive for a diesel, considering it only get 25mpg and the normally aspirated 4.0L V6 makes 236 HP / 266 ft-lb and gets 20+ mpg.

The biggest advantage is that you get the torque peak at 1400 rpm for the diesel instead of 4000 rpm for the V6, that's pretty nice!

    +1

A 200 HP V6 common rail turbo diesel, making 375 ft-lb of torque and getting 25mpg would be ..... truck nirvana! That would easily fetch a $3k price premium over a petrol 4.0L.

The Landrover 200's V8 turbo CRD would be great in the tundra as well.

Hey I'm not a smart guy on how you got the fuel mileage but how did you come up with 25 MPG? Personally I would settle for the 126 horsepower and "I know I could find a smart tuner" who could study the engine control unit and increase my horse power by 50% and in the process increase mileage as long as the driver can keep his foot out of it. But I do agree with your statement 5 mpg more is not worth the extra price. The maintenance alone would eat the savings up....

If you have the time could you visit this site www.mahindrana.com and give me your input on this truck? I would never buy a first year anything but 3rd year into production ...it should have all the kinks worked out....Note it is turbocharged and claims to have 140HP.

Dammmm Toyota get it together if you read this and get us a Hilux here in NA. By the way to the corolla users my son bought a new 2002 corolla and could never get better than 34 mpg....good cars though.

Fuel economy reported by Toyota is 9.3 L/100km

    http://www.toyota.com.au/hilux/specifications/sr-4x4-double-cab-pickup/0,4668,1598_544_329,00.html

    1 gal = 3.785 liters
    1 mile = 1.609km

    9.3 / 3.785 = 2.457 gal

    100 / 1.609 = 62.15 miles

    so:

    9.3 L per 100 km = 2.457 gal per 62.15 miles

    62.15 / 2.457 = 25.295 miles/gal

I doubt that you'll find an ECU programming solution that will yeild a 50% increase in anything ... 10-20% is doing pretty well, in turbo applications careful consideration has to be given to the compressor efficiency ranges of the factory turbos, fuel curves, etc.
