Taco Bell has also made the list...

It is bad enough when a restaurant makes me pay with that damned red card, and even worse then I have to wait in line to pay for the food instead of being given priority service. The whole concept of DoorDash, in my opinion, is for the Dasher to immediately pick up the order and be out the door in a matter of minutes.

The worst restaurants are the ones that make you place the order yourself in addition to using the red card to pay for it. Places I refuse to pick up from because of this obnoxious policy include:

    • Baskin Robbins
    • Dunkin Donuts
    • Taco Bell (most recent one)
    • Wendy’s

My job is to pick up the food and drop off the food! Ordering the food and and waiting for it wastes my time and costs me money!

A lot of the orders from the Wendy’s in Doylestown seem to be going right around the corner to someone at one of the many retail establishments who is on their lunch break.

The same is true for the Chipotle in Doylestown, but I stopped going there because the parking lot is too small and there is a particularly unpleasant older woman who works there.

And it’s taken long enough, but I think DoorDash is finally learning that there’s no point in sending me assignments from New Hope because I will just reject them.

    No...

There’s a lot of independent restaurants in my area that do Doordash, and I still go to McDonald’s.

I seriously think this is a conspiracy, or at least a prearranged agreement between DoorDash and Edible Arrangments...

Yesterday, I mentioned that I’d only been paid $9.50 to deliver a fruit bouquet from Warrington to Hatfield, an 11-mile drive that took almost 30 minutes due to rush hour traffic.

Last night, I had multiple more conventional food deliveries within a much shorter distance that paid the same or even more than that Edible Arrangements delivery! What gives?

Also, I say again that Edible Arrangements has a fleet of Dodge Caravans and Ford Transits with refrigerated cargo areas for delivering their products. It is unfair to expect a DoorDash driver with a sedan or SUV (or in my case a pickup truck) to deliver these fragile arrangements in their vehicles and turn down the heat when there’s a wind chill that makes it feel like it’s in the 20s outside!

Again, I will no longer be picking up orders at Edible Arrangements!

And then there’s the owner of the sandwich shop on 611, probably not even half a mile from the Edible Arrangements I went to, who flipped shit because I’d forgotten my insulated warm bag...

Another place I go out of my way to avoid!

So I looked it up, and apparently drivers for Edible Arrangements make anywhere from $10 an hour to more than $15 an hour. This isn’t bad, and $9.50 isn’t bad for a 30-45 minute DoorDash job, but relative to what I was making on other DoorDash jobs it’s bullshit it in my opinion. Again, no more Edible Arrangements deliveries!

My pet peeves of food delivery.

    Shitty tippers
People with no or (camouflaged) house numbers
People who don't turn any lights on for you when they know they live in a neighborhood as dark as a well diggers asshole
    Really slow restaurants
Restaurants that never get the damn order right
People that make you wait at the door while they finish of their threesome with their sister and her dog or whatever the fuck they do for five minutes while I stand out in the damn rain
Restaurants that pack a few appetizers in 10 big Styrofoam boxes and five bags
Neighborhoods with narrow streets where they still street park

At least 50% of other vehicles on the road for any number of reasons.

    :amen:

Did you see my post in this thread about "Dominatrix Pizza"? One of my Aspie friends came up with this idea for a pizza place where the all-female delivery staff would tie up and/or whip anyone who didn't tip well...

No... But that's fricken brilliant. But like if the girls are hot that might not work out as expected?

Oh, loooong narrow driveways with no place to turn around at the end.

Or if the person's seriously into S&M...

If the punishment for not tipping is being tied up and whipped, I think a lot of people would be motivated to not tip! Every since Fifty Shades came to prominence, BDSM has become a lot more mainstream.

I have an aftermarket backup camera installed in my Taco, so I just back into the long narrow driveways!

I've got a truck cap, and just the stock backup camera. I couldn't see shit if it was all over my face on a rainy foggy might like tonight. I guess I should upgrade a little.

Mine is mounted above the license plate and shows up on the head unit...

Also, do you really think "Dominatrix Pizza" is brilliant? I think my friend who came up with it would like you! I thought it was kind of outlandish. Another one of my friends, a middle-aged Aspie woman who is quite kinky to say the least, said the idea might actually work but that a permit like what you'd get to operate a strip club would probably be required in addition to the usual licenses for operating a pizzeria.

I think it's brilliant as a joke and play on words, as I thought it was intended. It sounds kind of like Hooters (just with leather instead of tight shirts and shorts) plus dicks last resort with verbal abuse, so some precedents have been set I guess. Actual physical contact would probably open up way too many opportunities for lawsuits with people saying they went too far on either side and such. There are bondage and S&M clubs out there to though so even that might be possible I dunno.

In actual practice I'm not into the idea personally for a variety of reasons. I don't know if it would work or not and I wouldn't be a patron personally for a variety of reasons. But to each their own. I'm not against it existing or anything.

So I survived the wet, rainy, dark, foggy Friday the 13th running orders last night. It was a tough one though! Just a crummy night to be out and about.

$40 in delivery fees, $52 in tips for $92 total, less my mileage/gas which is probably about $15 (maybe $20... I burned about a 1/4 tank). This was over about 5 hours so something like $15 an hour. 8 orders run for about 1.5 orders per hour (but remember I tend to run longer distance orders).

My gig sounds a little different from dash. We use an actual dispatcher that sends us one order at a time and while I can theoretically pass on an order, it's not practicable. We have a limited set of drivers and if I cherry picked all the good orders by passing all the time sooner or later they just wouldn't have me drive for them anymore. It's sort of luck of the draw. So even if a restaurant sucks or I know the order is going to stiff me or the tip is already declared on the bill and it's low, I pretty much just suck it up and get it done so I can move on. It generally averages out in the long run. For every crappy tipper there are one or two generous ones.

The dispatcher model is also an advantage in some ways though because even for places that require us to order the dispatcher can usually call and place the order for us before we get there so it's ready and waiting. While I do sometimes have to order food (I did last night at panda express) it's rare. They usually plan the next order such that the restaurant is near where we last ordered if they can. They can also deal with any customer or order issues that come up and generally keep things running smoothly. Our main dispatcher and I get along well too so I know he tends to hook me up when he can.

Plus, I like driving around. This time of year the Christmas displays are really pretty. Plus it leads to some interesting experiences and interactions every now and then.

Remember what I said? Only doing it during the holidays...

And I actually calculated my gas mileage and found out that I did turn a decent profit. Also, what makes me angry is that I did several orders of $9 or more that were all 6 miles roundtrip or less. Why did DoorDash send me 11 miles one way for a $9.50 order?!?!

I know you think I'm crazy, but again, only doing it during December. Once the lights come off the truck after New Year's, I'm done unless I need emergency money.

I have no problem driving 127 miles one way to get to Carlisle, but that's almost entirely highway driving and there's a whole treasure trove of trucks to take pictures of at my destination!
