DoorDash’s Orwellian tracking system really drives me nuts...

A little over a week ago I was delivering an order within Doylestown Borough. I was well within the “drop off by” time, and right as I’m turning left onto the customer’s narrow street, DoorDash sent me automated text...

“We’ve noticed that you are really close to the customer’s house, but that you haven’t delivered the order yet.”

Seriously?!?! No shit, Sherlock! I say again, I was practically on the customer’s street and well within the time window!

There’s a place in Doylestown, right next to the Acme supermarket, called Bacco Bistro. I do not have a problem with this restaurant, and in fact love picking up orders there.

I park my truck in the fire zone outside this place all the time. I park in such a way that my truck does not impede traffic. Nobody has ever given a shit, until last night...

Last night, my truck was outside for probably less than ten minutes. I had gotten in and was about to pull away from the curb when this huge security guard appears at me driver’s window...

    I. Hate. Security Guards. Period.

I rolled down my window and rather impatiently said “What?!?!”

He asked if I was delivering. One thing that really pisses me off is when people ask a stupid question to which there is a painfully obvious answer.

I responded that I was picking up a delivery and about to leave, and he walked away from my truck. I could tell that he was a typical egotistical rent-a-cop looking to exert his authority and he seemed almost disappointed when I told him I was leaving. I sensed his negative attitude and told him to relax before rolling my window up and driving away.

    I hate security guards...

I am happy to say that DoorDash seems to be getting the message that I refuse to make pickups in New Hope. One of the reasons I refuse to go to New Hope is because I’ll have to drive 20-30 minutes out there and possibly only get one order that pays the same as one in Doylestown, then have to drive all the way back.

DoorDash still tries to send me to Lahaska (Peddler’s Village), but I decline these orders as well...

I've said this before and I will say it again...

Edible Arrangements seems to have a shortage of dedicated drivers, so they seem to have resorted to contracting with DoorDash. DO NOT take any Edible Arrangements orders! Edible Arrangements sends dashers on longer runs for smaller amounts of money (sometimes less than what you'd get for a traditional food delivery with half the driving). The reason my first and last Edible Arrangement order was so long is because a company in Warrington ordered something from the Edible Arrangements location in Warrington, and then sent it to their customer, which happened to be an apartment leasing office in Hatfield. 11 miles one way, in rush hour traffic!

    :annoyed:

This is an actual screenshot of an actual order that somebody received (They declined)!

    Look into instacart.

I have made as much as $80 in a hour. I average 25 ish an hour.

I would never accept something that’s $10 for 11 mile drive lol

That's the first and last time I accepted such an order...

Edible Arrangements has been officially shitlisted. I am 99% sure they entered into some sort of agreement with Doordash where they don't have to pay as much. I typically do not accept any orders with less $8 for any distance!

So, with Instacart you actually have to go into the grocery store and do the shopping?

You can choose to be a delivery only.

I pretty much only do shops and delivery for people.

Doordash has actually been sending orders where I'd get paid four bucks or less!

I am satisfied with my current ratings on DoorDash; I only have a 72% acceptance rate because I turn down orders with a payout of less than $6 and/or are located in New Hope...

I just sent in a photo of my proof of insurance a little over a month ago and it was accepted...

I decided that today I’m going to log into Uber Eats and see if the delivery system has improved; I log in and find out that my background check has expired?!?!

I can understand annual background checks for traditional Uber drivers (the ones that pick up people), but for a food delivery person in should be ONE AND DONE!

Now I’m gonna have to wait before I can drive Uber again!

Come on, Uber! Why the hell do I need a background check again?

Yesterday evening, I did Doordash; Unsurprisingly, the first run the restaurant attempted to send me on was to a Hoagie place on 611 in Warrington that I absolutely refuse to go to because the owner gave me shit for not having my warm bag with me...

To date, this has been the only person who’s really cared, and like I always do I declined to pick up from this place.

I got one $8 order from Five Guys if I remember correctly, and I was about to throw in the towel when I got an order from a Chinese place in Buckingham. It was not until I was literally right there about to make a left turn that I realized this was a restaurant in the Buckingham Greene shopping center that I’d previously swore to myself I’d never pick up from again because the owner is such a jerk...

I cancelled the order, pulled into the shopping center, and waited for an order to come in. An order came in from a restaurant a few miles away, about the same time my cousin who lives in Wilkes-Barre called me; Because I was chatting with my cousin on the Bluetooth, I remained utterly clueless that DoorDash was directing me to a restaurant in Peddler’s Village...

I swore off Peddler’s Village weeks ago largely because most of the orders there come from one pizza place with a parking lot that takes forever to get out of; There is this obnoxiously long light, and a sign that says NO TURN ON RED, so you are screwed whether you are going left or right!

Even if I don’t get sent to this particular pizza place, almost orders from restaurants in Peddler’s Village are guaranteed to be headed into New Hope, and I refuse to go into New Hope!

I would also like to point out that after I turned down the order from the hoagie place in Warrington, I got another order from some Chinese place that would have netted me only four dollars (US$4)! I’ve actually gotten orders that would have netted me less than four bucks, and of course I turned them down, mostly because I was required to drive a considerable distance to the restaurant.

My best guess as to why these payouts are so pathetic is because the customer works close to the restaurant, but either can’t leave work or doesn’t want to walk to the restaurant; Expecting me to make that delivery when they’ve got two perfectly good legs is like me renting a UHAUL to move furniture when I’ve got a perfectly good pickup truck!
