They left one hell of a tip!

 

The contemporary house was located way up in woods, and getting back down to the main road was a bit tedious...

 

I made one delivery from New Hope, Pennsylvania into Lambertville last night because I'd happened to end up in the area; This came in as I was leaving the contemporary house, but I turned it down because I was winding down for the night and didn't feel like going in the opposite direction...

 

Another order from the Wawa in New Hope came in seconds later, and it was a staggering $15.50, but I turn it down because it was going fairly far into New Jersey.

 

Whoever drew the Doylestown zone to include Lambertville, New Jersey is an idiot!

Some of you may remember that a couple weeks ago, I got an order from the Wendy's in Doylestown that was going all the way to Stockton, New Jersey; Stockton is a town on the Delaware River that is so small you can literally throw a rock from end to end, and it it not in any DoorDash "zones". Lambertville is included in the Doylestown zone, and Stockton is fairly close to Lambertville, so that's why the poor bastard was able to order from a Wendy's in Doylestown!

 

This order had me driving to an ice cream place in Jersey, then back across the river into Pennsylvania...

 

Umm, no...

Earlier on in the pandemic, in roughly March-May 2021, the issue was that most fast food places weren't letting anybody in; Occasionally, employees would forget to lock the doors, and at the same not put up any signage indicating that the restaurant was not open to the public. Last winter, in probably February or March of 2021, this led to an altercation with an employee at the Taco Bell in Warminster; He could have just handed me the order, but he was obsessed with the "no customers inside the restaurant" policy, which led to me dropping an F-bomb. He said I was banned for life, though I still get orders from that Taco Bell; I decline every single one...

Nowadays, the problem is not COVID restrictions, but rather understaffed restaurants that only drive-thru open at night; Inevitably, absentminded employees forget to lock the door...

Last night, I went to pick up an order at Wendy's in Doylestown; There were no instruction on the app saying to use the drive-thru, so I walked in. Everybody was in the kitchen in the rear of the Wendy's and did not see me. I went to the bathroom, and when I came back out, a Wendy's employee was rudely telling a teenager who had come in behind me that he had to leave. The kid apologized and left, and this punk kid who worked there then turned down to me...

I have a huge problem with being talked down to by people younger than me, giving me the "The dining area is closed" lecture and telling me I couldn't be in there; They were annoyed that I'd managed to come in without them seeing me. I take no responsibility here, and they should have locked the fucking door...

My response was "Well I'm already in here, and my DoorDash order is right on the counter, so can you just give it to me?"

The food seriously was right there...

The teenaged prick of an employee was like "Nope, you gotta through the drive-thru..."

Me: "But I'm in here and the food is right there"...

Teenaged prick: "Doesn't matter..."



I stormed out and grumbled "I'm sick of this shit" as I do so; As I walked back out to the truck, I heard the door open behind me and turned around to see one of the employees locking the door...

I got the truck was going to cancel the order, but it was one of those ones where you have to contact Dasher support to unassign it; It wasn't a bad payout, so I decided to go through the drive-thru...

I know these Wendy's pricks had seen me get in the truck and go through the drive-they, but the same prick who'd just kicked me out had the gall to respond with "Welcome to Wendy's; Can I take your order?"



I was pissed; I'm seriously the DoorDash driver you just kicked out."

This asshole said "Well, if you're gonna be rude to us, then you can just have another Dasher pick up this order." I was DONE. I floored it and peeled out of the drive-thru; I stopped in a parking lot and contacted Dasher support via text. I not only got the order unassigned but reported the Wendy's for unprofessional merchants. DoorDash took my side and I even got partial pay for the order Wendy's refused to give me...

 

I also nuked that particular Wendy's on Yelp!

A dilapidated air-conditioner at an equally dilapidated house that I brought a DoorDash order to...

Until gas prices go way down, I'm done doing DoorDash; Customers are getting cheaper and gas is getting more expensive. Less than a year ago, doing DoorDash in a truck barely gets 20 MPG was profitable; Now, it most certainly is not. I will always keep it open as a side hustle if all else fails, but I've got a good job with a 401K and it looks like I'm gonna be working at the reimagined Puck as a second job once it reopens.

That said, I am beginning to get more and more disillusioned with the people I deal with on a daily basis; DoorDash, to its credit, has gotten much better. However, last month some asshole decided he was going to claim his food never got delivered in order to get it for free, nevermind that my account ended up with a bogus contract violation. DoorDash took my side, but is still sorting this out.

Then, there was the much more recent incident at Wendy's where I got into it with a bunch of punk teenage employees who forget to lock the front door and absolutely refuse to give me the order unless I went through the drive-thru, even though the order was right there. This crazy world that we live in has people edge, and people are becoming bigger and bigger assholes. There is only so much I can take in terms of bullshit from random assholes, mostly employees at various restaurants, and I reckon I'm two or three more rude employees away from losing my shit and saying or doing something I really regret.

Primarily it's gas prices that led to this decision, but in addition to douchebag restaurant employees and entitled customers, I'm noticing that food deliveries are going farther and farther from the restaurants where I pick them up for not a whole hell of a lot more money than I get for shorter orders. I need a break!
