I got a job! I applied at three different Domino's Pizza locations and got a call from the manager of the Ambler location (not one I applied at, and not my first choice, but I'll take it). I researched pizza delivery jobs extensively, and Domino's is the only one that pays for miles put on your vehicle on top of hourly pay and tips.

I took a second job as a delivery driver for an independent pizzeria in Doylestown back in the summer of 2015; I got paid $5 per hour under the table plus tips, and I did pretty well.

Domino's plays $8 per hour, and that does not include mileage reimbursement or tips! I will be in a set zone, so no worrying about orders going to undesirable areas.

As such, this weekend will be my last weekend of gig work (DoorDash and Uber Eats); I start next week.

I am strong considering leaving NAVMAR if I get the Hone Depot job and transferring my 401(k). Puck, the bar where I used to work, will like be reopening under a new brand this spring; I have been offered my barbacking job back, so obviously I would pick up shifts there when I'm working at Domino's, Home Depot, NAVMAR, etc...

Domino's is only intended to be temporary, but it beats the shit out of DoorDash for numerous reasons!

Thanks! Delivering pizzas was an excellent side hustle for me back in the day, plus I hit it off with the guy who will be my boss...

On another note, while doing DoorDash today, I saw this sitting amongst the trash and garbage cans in a customer's driveway; I rang the doorbell, asked the customer if I could take it, and got the okay to do so. My original intention was to scrap to it along with the old Whirlpool refrigerator and water softener tanks that my girlfriend's landlady gave me, but I texted a picture to Amanda to see if she wanted it and she did. This rolling drawer/shelf thing is in great shape aside from missing a drawer, so I'd say it's a score...

    Delivering pizzas in your POV?

Congrats on the job, but you’re gonna have the same issue with the vehicle as you do doordashing. Your aging vehicle is not meant for that type of work.

It's only temporary, trust me. The one thing this job has over DoorDash is the mileage reimbursement. Also, one of the other drivers at that location delivers in a Nissan with like 269K miles...

Also, keep in mind that significant portions of my truck have rather low miles...

    • The entire underside of the truck is just over two years old and has less than 50K miles on it due to the frame replacement.
    • The engine underwent a major overhaul just over a year and a little more than 30K miles ago.
    • The majority of the braking system is brand new; I got the rear brake shoes and wheel cylinders for free because the dealership cut me a deal, and the front brakes (just the pads) are getting replaced in less than a thousand miles.
    • I would say that I've got more than 100K left before something else really expensive breaks, and by then I hope that my truck will be a second vehicle or I will have sold it outright to buy something newer.
As of right now, my truck burns a tiny bit of oil and I am actually considering getting that addressed if interest rates for car loans don't start trending downward.

Tranny was just serviced; I would have the transmission in this truck rebuilt or replaced before I financed a newer truck at today's interest rates!

I'm not sure what chain it is?
But one of the ones here provides a company car to deliver in.
    I think it's Little Caesars?

Their pizza isn't good, So I never buy it.

Domino's I think was starting to invest in hybrids or EVs for the drivers, not sure if it's happening yet

Domino's had the Chevy Sparks with the built-in warming oven. My soon-to-be boss at the one in Ambler says that they had a Chevy Volt at one point, but right now all of their driver's are using personal vehicles...

I liked Little Sleazer's at times, but long ago. Don't have one anywhere near me now so I can't comment.

I don't know that they started that program yet much less what areas it was going to hit first though..

Ugh, fucking Chevy..probably had to put the warmer in so the shit didn't freeze before it got delivered in those shitbuckets

So, I've been noticing this exclusively with Chinese and Japanese places lately. Thankfully, the ones that let you come all the way in are not requiring masks, but this particular place was totally open the last time I picked up an order. Now, there are less than half a dozen tables for customers to eat at the restaurant, and the hallway to the bathroom is blocked off...

I believe I came across three Asian places in Bethlehem that were totally sealed off, and at least one of which was acting like it was the summer of 2020; I thought it was exclusive to the Bethlehem/Lehigh Valley area, but finding a place here in Bucks County that was previously operating at normal capacity and had the bathrooms open to the public was rather shocking. Actually, it's downright annoying. I say again that masks were not required in this place, and I don't even think the staff was masked, but this is just another reason I will be done with DoorDash for real in about a week.

I am officially done with DoorDash after this weekend, and I mean it this time! :luvya:

I had two traffic tickets on my record when I started driving for DoorDash in July 2019, both of which were reduced in court so I go no points on my license. The first one was 43 MPH in a 25 MPH zone in May 2017, and the second one was the infamous incident where I absentmindedly treated a red light like a stop sign in January 2019. Like I said, both were taken to court and reduced so they didn't have any effect on my driving record or insurance rates. I have never had a suspended license or any points, and my driving record has never been an issue for DoorDash when it conducts annual background checks.

I got pulled over for 45 MPH in a 25 MPH zone in August 2023, because I needed to pick up @Stitchgirl90 in Ambler where she was living at the time and get to a party in Doylestown, which I was running late for. This stretch of road, which I now avoid, is a notorious speed trap; I took the ticket to court, and it got reduced to 5 MPH over, which does not put points on your driver's license.

I had more or less forgotten about it until I got a notification on my phone that I'd gotten an email about my DoorDash background check, and that were was something that could be an issue.

Let me make it perfectly clear that as far as my driving record is concerned, I pleaded guilty to 5 MPH over. There is no mention of doing 20 MPH over the speed limit. Imagine my shock when I open this email and find a public record of my speeding ticket from nearly six months ago, that was reduced so it wouldn't appear on my driving record or effect my insurance rates. I logged into the Dasher app, and it was inaccessible, saying that my background check was pending. I thought that I'd been deactivated, but maybe twenty minutes later I regained access.

My Uber Eats account has not been effected at all by any traffic ticket I've gotten, and this is the first time in nearly five years of driving for DoorDash on and off that a background check has effected my account.

This, along with a multitude of other reasons, has influenced my decision to leave the platform for good; I will still maintain an account for the gravest of emergencies, but I am pretty much done. Scrapping has turned into a very profitable side hustle, I've got this new job at Domino's that actually reimburses me for the miles put on my truck making deliveries, I'm finally going to be starting the Home Depot job sometime next month, and I could be getting my job at NAVMAR back this spring. Amanda also has a job and has been paying for oil changes, and contributing to other maintenance costs.
