This is loaded every night buy my bedside, haven't been killed by it yet and it's a double stamp gun, they're especially dangerous.

Depends on who you ask, some people out there say that the short barrel and suppressor make it more likely to be "dangerous".

But yes, it's dangerous to people who break in and threaten me or my family.

My dad was in the Navy for 25 years, 18 of which I was alive for! He retired as a Captain.

Also, two of my uncles (related by marriage) were in the Army, and my step-Grandpa was a Navy SEAL!

"Dangerous" meaning likely to blow up in your face? That looks like a well-engineered firearm...

Yes, and if you get in a situation where you feel you need it you better be willing to use it, you have to have a certain mindset when push comes to shove.

    And I'm not gonna lie...

Even if it was totally in self-defense, I would have a hard time living with myself if I had to take another human life under most circumstances.

@Doughnut Spaghetti some good reading on Shotguns in this thread. My vote is for a Mossberg 500.

Six pages of post and your original post weren’t necessary to read.

If the question is “should I get a shotgun” then the answer is always yes. No need to discuss.

There is no castle law here .... you can only apply deadly force when confronted by deadly force.

I.e. Someone breaks into your house to steal your TV and you waste him, you're going to jail for murder.

If they are hacking you to death with a machete and you splatter their guts on the wall with a 12 gauge, you will likely beat the murder charge.

If someone is mutilating or raping my wife or kid, I would saw their head off and willingly go to jail.

    Make sense?

    FIFY. But yeah I agree.

Not really sure how many shotguns I own now, and just sent a check off yesterday for another one. 1938 Ithaca 37 prewar that has the bbl. cut down to 24.5" so it is Cyl. choke. Will be another early season grouse gun.

I'm retired Navy and had my choice of weapons out of the armory and always picked the shotgun. Every one knew to keep their mitts off it, it was mine.

Ithaca 37, Winchester Model 12 are solid steel and don't have plastic in them. If I was to use a newer 870 made in the last 30 years I would replace the plastic in them, and do a basic rework. Seen a lot of them jam on feed.

Whatever you get use it a lot. Get to know it. Then shoot it some more. Know it inside out. Then shoot it some more. Lot of choices out there. Who knows someday you might actually use it for birds and clays. Like bucktales pointed out no need to be ugly.

Did I mention there are a lot of choices out there? Here are just a few

    Beretta Ultralight 686 12 ga.

    F.A.I.R. (I. Rizzini) 12 ga.

    Benelli Ultralight 12 ga.

    Joel Etchen Custom Trap Combo
    [IMG]

    1949 Ithaca 37 16 ga.

    Ohio Made Ithaca 37
    [IMG]

There is no excuse for getting an ugly shotgun.

And #9 shot will not penetrate near as far as a rifle bullet. But will remove human flesh up close. Stings like hell at about 30 yards. Not sure what it feels like to get shot with a rifle bullet at 30 yards, something I have always tried to avoid.

But yes, a pump shotgun is necessary for home defense. I would hope the sound of it racking on its own would be enough to deter and descallate the situation.

I’ve been meaning to get an 870 for years but have been slacking.

Thanks been addicted to the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever for almost 30 years now. The one in my avatar is sitting an empty 12 pound keg of Red Dot gunpowder and has since crossed the Rainbow bridge.

Yes I can't recall exactly when the slam fire was discontinued think it was the early 60's. IIRC the model 12 can also slam fire.
