I was looking at old threads on here about adjusting the rear drum brakes using the hand brake handle in reverse. I went ahead and adjusted the brakes using that method. In the las I've always spun the star wheel with a screw driver and have over tightened brakes before. Is it possible to overtighten the rear brakes using the handbrake in reverse method?

No, it is not possible to over tighten the rear brakes using the handbrake in reverse method.

Hand tighten the brakes by spinning the wheel and tighten the star wheel until the drum locks then back the star wheel off 15 clicks. This is per the Toyota service manual.
