    Hi there,
Maybe I am being to picky but I noticed something kind of dumb IMO. When I hit "auto" for my fan control, it only pumps air to my feet and not the upper vents. So now my feet are hot, but top still cold. That seems really strange to me... I did search and couldn't find other posting about this. Every other car I have look at this in, pumps air to both top vents & bottom.

    Thoughts?

I also I find it strange that when I turn the fan "off", it is not really off and still blows air.

Interesting... Ill have to monitor this. I am 100% sure when I press the AUTO button the symbol on the display is footwell air. Ill run it for longer and see if this ever changes...
    Thanks

I don´t know for sure, I am just throwing something out here, but since heat rises if there is say a 4 degree or less temp difference from what the actual temp is and what you set it for, then the foot vents would be the wise choice. If you crank the heat up and call for a 10 degree difference then it would probably blow from the upper vents as well. I would then guess the opposite would happen if you were trying to get it cooler.
Like I said, this is just a thought, I am trying to figure out how/why they would program it such a way.

You have to press the recirculate air button to stop air from blowing completely. Otherwise it's going to put fresh air in the cab

I think it calculates what would be most efficient to reach your set temp.

Idea here is that heat rises. If you pump too much hot air to quickly into the upper quadrants you risk fogging windows in colder temps

Thanks for the responses. I had a good test today because it was cold (-3 Celsius).
    1. Hit auto
    2. Display as foot-vent arrow on
    3. Hot air pumping out of there. Nothing from main vent near main-display
    4. Vent next to window however does blow hot air.

This likely supports the fog-theory posted by some above. Guess it is what it is. Makes my feet get super warm though!
    Thanks all

Even with the "auto" light off, when I run the defrost/lower vents, the fan still varies the speeds. So I think it's still auto tuning the temperature.

Don't quote me but all the auto climate stuff I have had in cars and trucks, when heat is on it directs the hot air to the feet, the hotter the air the more it applies to the feet, medium temperatures you will see more of a mix and when the A/C is on you will see it out the vents. I don't think I have ever seen the main vents push hot air (while in auto) but maybe I am remembering wrong.

All auto climate controls in every vehicle I've owned blows heat on your feet. Heat rises, and hot dry air blowing in your face is not cool. Literally.

Exactly. It switches off floor/defrost to limit AC use and speed up cabin heating.

I also hate people who crank the heat on auto systems, it doesnt warm up faster and it just melts your face off when it goes past room temperature.

Side note, Toyota uses PTC heaters in our heater cores to help speed up cabin temp warm up!

Too bad the 'Auto' setting didn't allow you to change the fan mode. I usually keep mine on the 'feet/windshield' setting. But auto kicks it to feet only

My Subaru did this too and I never had a complaint. Hot air rises.

Even on my Gen 2 with super simple dials, I usually leave it to mostly feet with a tiny bit diverted to the windshield. I never use the dash vents for heat--only A/C.

If it's still blowing when you turn if off, press the recirculating button. The one above the a/c button. If it's lit up, it stops bringing in fresh air. If you're driving down the road and the fresh air is on (light off on recirculating button) air will still blow through the vents.

I use mine in feet/windshield, it does kick off the "auto" light but it still auto adjusts the fan speed and maintains the temperature pretty steady.
