Auto headlights staying on

I have an 06 taco and am experiencing a strange issue. For as long as I owned it when I have the headlights on auto they turn off as soon as I open the door. Today it seems that they now stay on when I open the door and only way to turn them off is to open the door and switch them off manually. No the biggest problem of all time but I’m so used to them automatically turning off I’m afraid I’ll forget one day and drain the battery. I’ve tried to do some digging but can’t seem to find anything related besides problems on 3rd gems. Thanks I’m advance for any ideas!

 

Does the “Door Open” light come on when the door is opened?

 

Yes the light comes on in the cab when I open the door and I get the small door open signal on the dash

 

Your 06 has auto headlights? Is that a pre-runner exclusive?

 

No I guess I just called them that. Meant to say when they are on they have always automatically turned off when I open the door. Not automatic like the newer models have.

 

Does your dome light work properly?

 

yes it works as it should. Turns on and off with the door.

 

yes the dome light works as it should and i get the open door icon on the dash.

 

That tells me the Body ECU is getting the right signal from the door switch, only other thing to check is voltage on the IG1 No2 fuse with the key off and make sure it's 0v.

If it is 0v then something is going funky with the Body ECU, if it's not 0v than we need to find where the stray voltage is coming from.

 

I’ll try to check that tomorrow and see what I come up with

 

I used a volt meter and did the beep test to show the fuse was all good. I was not getting any reading with the volt meter when touching the top of the fuse tho. Any advice how to test the voltage like you were suggesting?

 

What is a beep test?

 

Continuity of the fuse?

 

Good guess. I've been in electronics, electrician for 50 years and never heard of a beep test... I know that some multi meters can beep when checking continuity.

I tested the continuity and the volt meter beeps.

 

I wasn't worried about the fuse being blown I wanted to check voltage on the fuse with the key off to make sure there was nothing backfeeding the circuit.

 

from the reading I got I saw 0v across the fuse with the key on and off. To me this must mean there’s nothing back feeding the circuit?

 

across, as the 2 little holes in the fuse? that would be 0
need to go Fuse to ground to get the voltage potential
