    Good morning all,

For reasons that are entirely irrelevant, I'd really like it if my truck would automatically engage the door locks when shifting into drive. I've done some work on my 2nd gen, but am absolutely no expert when it comes to the wiring of these trucks specifically.

My current thought is to tap the indicator light on the dash for "D" and use it to signal a constant to momentary relay circuit connected to the power locks. Is there anyone with a better grasp of these trucks that has a better/cleaner/more efficient idea?

    Thanks!

If I had a reason to do this I would use the neutral safety switch.

NO contacts would close when it was shifted out of Park or neutral.

    Locking your door locks

I would need to look closer this is just spur of the moment

    Normally Open= NO

This is a customizable option available through techstream on 3rd gen Tacomas. My 2nd gen was a manual but someone may know if this option is available for gen 2's. If it's already built in then just turning it on is the simplest solution.

Not an option on 2nd gens, to include the "universal" Toyota programming feature using dome light position and door lock buttons, but thank you for the suggestion!

For now it looks like I'll be digging out the third hand and putting together a dead bug style prototype.

Yea I did a quick search around and looks like the functionality wasn't included until gen 3's. Gonna have to go old school!
