On my 2010 Tacoma I have performed the yellow wire mod, thus enabling TRAC in 4Lo. Sometimes it doesn't seem to be working well enough, is there a way to enable the Auto-LSD outside of 2WD?

Auto lsd and trac are the same thing it just changes name from 2hi to 4hi.

No you can't get atrac, the trd off road 4x4 has a completely different master cylinder and traction control system.

Braking power (to stop the spinning wheel) comes from vacuum, generated in the intake manifold when the throttle is closed. If you are stepping on the throttle to get unstuck, the vacuum is gone. That's why the system doesn't work well on non-TRD Off Road models.

I thought it used the abs rather than vacuum?

    Cheers for the welcome :)

So what you're saying is TRAC only works when there is intake vacuum, aka when the engine is winding down, which doesn't seem useful at all and contradicts Toyota's official documentation about TRAC helping you from a stop.

My thinking about the auto-LSD is why buy and install a locker alongside the LSD I already have when I could find a way to bypass the 4WD lockout for LSD mode? There's got to be a way to wire a switch that powers the LSD system, right?

EDIT: Oh, and I run BFG AT/KO 235/85R16s, they're pretty decent

I'm pretty sure it has a mechanical lsd, it is TRAC that uses the braking system

Edit :maybe not, I was looking at pictures of a Tacoma with the e locker

Mine is a 2010 so it does have a mechanical lsd, right? The plot thickens..

Any suggestions on exactly what to get for a rear locker? I looked at arb air lockers but I'm not sure exactly what I need

Which rear axle does my truck have? I thought it was the 8" but their pic for that is a first gen 4Runner

Think I figured out the rear, same as the T-100.

That said, my bed is almost always empty, if I'm going the ARB air locker route I think a front locker would give me more benefit. More weight up front means better traction and a selectable locker should reduce the risk of breakage. I'm not planning on running tires larger than my 32" skinnies.

Is this the correct front locker? http://eastcoastgearsupply.com/i-131642-toyota-7-5-ifs-arb-air-locker-rd90-27-spline-all.html

For the rear would it make more sense to swap in a TRD locked rear axle? Any idea on where to source one and the price?

I found a gauge in my torque obd app for engine vacuum.

I haven't had a chance to test it in a stuck situation yet but so far it looks like braking only takes 1-2 inHg out of ~-22inHg when coming to a stop. Vacuum drops pretty low (~-6 inHg) during acceleration but if you hold your rpms steady it comes right back up. Interesting.
