Why are Tacomas great for trips?

    They have autoLSD!

Yes, it will work in 4x4 and on all v6 models.

AutoLSD only works in 2wd. You push the button momentarily to activate it. It is a more aggressive form of traction control.

There are no OEM front lockers on any Taco. All open diffs. It is the TCS that gives us traction for wheel slip / wheel off the ground.

Only the T case is locked and the OR / Pro have a rear locker available in 4Lo only.

It worked great in the snow in 4lo last weekend. I did not get stuck in all that snow:
My buddy in his off road and dedicated winters did, twice

i have called it simulated limited slip. junk compared to the true posi traction where both rear tires will lay a patch of rubber.

    Junk?

Auto LSD works fantastic off-road. If your goal is to make sure you can lay patch of rubber on the pavement, then mechanical LSD is the way to go.

While I don't feel a lack of power, folks are gonna need a whole lot more than a spool, LSD, or similar for the 3rd Gen to put down 11s.

I wouldn't call it junk but I would question it though. I have experience with an LSD out of a Ranger FX4, the clutched torsen style LSD, (not sure if your Ranger was an FX4 or not) it worked well but as soon as 2 wheels lifted, it did this funny surging forward and then rolling back thing... it tried, just could quite do it. With all four wheels on the ground it did great though.

My mazda b4000 was equivalent to an FX4. That rear LSD worked great for me, I don’t remember it doing anything funny though. Did the front have it too? Pretty sure it was open?

That was such a great truck man, I miss it everyday still. I shed a tear when the guy drove away in it haha.

    Wish I could’ve kept it…

It's kinda like that LS car motor swap that everyone talks about. It's always greener over there with an empty wallet and bigger issues.

So what are the best truck engine swaps for the 3rd gen? 1GR FE? I mean it does have crazy amounts of tq at like idle.
