Anybody have any words of wisdom here? I'm at a loss on what to do other than back out the mods to see if it fixes the problem.

My only words of wisdom are to do one mod at a time so that if you mess something up it's easier to track down. Can't help with your specific problem tho. I'd undo everything and see if that solves your problem. Good luck.

Thanks, Sizzle, that's what I planned to do. Reversing the defrost mod is easier so I'll do that first and go from there.

Has anyone other than OP tried to remove the brown wire pin from the connector? I tried yesterday, no luck. Did not want to cut the wire and leave that hanging out of the connector, so I gave up for now...lame, I know...

I just cut it and let it hang. Easier to splice back together if you ever wanted too. Tape it up and you're good to go. I also didn't solder the new connection. Please don't take away my Toyota card :)

Did you use the 'cut both wires & splice with butt connectors' or just cut the brown wire & remove the insulation from a spot on the pink and splice?

Cut both and butt splice. It's not a mission critical system so I don't mind if it's not professional quality. It took me five minutes and it's worked perfectly so far.

Exactly what I did, minus the zip ties. Those just seemed like overkill seeing the size of the wires, and the location & lack of tension on the wire loom. Took about 10 minutes, works as described. Thanks OP, very useful post!

I didnt do the zipties either. I did that center hole splice and soldered , but I was doing 4-5 mods at once so i had all the tools out and ready. Otherwise would have taped and been done.

I looked for my soldering iron, without success, but again, these were such small wires, I figured the splice & tape were more than sufficient. If I find my soldering iron, I may go back and add the solder...

Thanks OP worked like a charm on my 09.

I am glad I am not the only one who hated that "feature"

Well I got to the bottom of this, and it turned out to be a pilot error.

This message explains how to do the A/C Defrost mod for 2009+ Tacos. The first message in the thread in big red letters points to this info, but did I notice it? Nope. Anyway, things are working as intended now, just wanted to pass the info along.

Just did this mod thx dan.ooh it's back to the way it works on my 07 sr5 frankly I saw it as not just a ridiculous inconvenience, but also a safety issue. Looking away from the roadway 2x to 3x a day for a few seconds to bump the temp dial up a notch or push both buttons.... everyone should do this ...... Thx dude

Another bump for a great and easy mod! Didnt even think to look this up when I purchased my '13 in June. Now that the weather has been cooler, I find myself turning the dial more often and accidentally switching to Max A/C too often.

5 minutes with a quick splice, some electrical tape and a test session to make sure it worked and I could not be happier. Thank you to Dano.oh again!

P.S. I didnt see this mod linked in the "2nd Gen Tips, Mods & More" page, which is likely why I didnt get to this until now. Any way of adding it?

Great mod, really didn't like kicking on the A/C when I turned the Temp Control all the way counterclockwise! Confirming this mod works on 2010 model year.

Just did this on my 2015 and it worked great. I can't for the life of me figure out how to release the pins from the connector though, I had to improvise

I've always been bothered by this "feature", just have to find the time to fix it now.

Revisiting this after a few years. It seems my recirc button no longer works...related, do you think?

Its likely the ricirc servo located behind the glove box and on the air inlet and would be unrelated to the mod. The servo has a known history.
