If it were a sporty car i'd take a stick any day of the week...but a truck, i'd go auto all the way. The fun of having a stick is going for spirited drives and having full control of what its doing.

I LOVE driving a manual - JUST NOT THE ONE IN THE TACOMA - it sucks. I loved the manual in my '90 Nissan p/u and car before that. If the manual (in the tacoma) had been different I would probably still have one...

I would slightly agree with manual only with sports car but we drive and travel a lot so i'm used to driving and love to do it. That's why i added to my post that auto are for people who also have to commute to a big city and or who are on steep hills and i should have said who haul a great amount I've drove the truck to Disney word, Columbia SC, Asheville/Atlanta, and countless trips to knoxville all this summer. The only time i wished i had cruise or an auto was coming back from columbia because my bed was full of stuff from my grandmothers estate. I also drove through atlanta traffic and though i did fine it would have been easier to drive through with an auto. I live in a town of only 5,000 and the closest big city is Knoxville which is and hour away. A manual also helps me pay attention to the road and driving because you have to deal with when to shift and if your going to suddenly stop and shift down. That helped me get better since i am still new to driving.

not really true, its what the market wants. Commercial trucks are still mostly manuals. Americans seem to want auto everything... seeking better, but never really finding it. I drive both. they both have good n bad points.

I just picked up a 5 spd manual yesterday.

I've only had three cars in my life (including the new taco). First car was a 68 VW beetle, manual. Got me through high school and college. For the last 8 years I've driven a 93 GMC Sierra, automatic.

One of the big things I looked for in my new truck was a manual transmission. I LOVED my Sierra, but in the back of my mind always wished I was driving a stick again. The GMC was too big to make it really practical, so I went hunting for a smaller pickup with the stick. Put about 250 miles on it yesterday and today, just getting my shifting legs back under me. Sure, it's a bit rough around the edges, but it's a truck. And hell, still beats the bug in a smooth shifting contest,so zero complaints from me.

I'm very happy with my purchase. Feels like I'm really driving again.

    Cheers.

Funny thing is, that's what I was talking about! And everyone else started talking about transmissions! My wife wants an auto now more than a me (the man) though so it kinda backfired on me:D

There is nothing better than a stick. If you aint shiftin you aint drivin. Also better to keep you focused.

I got an auto and am happy with it. If you live in a big city with traffic and thats hilly (Atlanta), youll be happy you have an auto. With a truck i dont think that its more fun to have a stick shift, now a sports car with an automatic....id rather die than drive it. but get what YOU want, the wife can learn how to drive it, or that will be a good way to keep the car undamaged :)
